Considering the Xbox 1 doesn't even play at 60fps at 1080p.. Yeah, that's a lot better than an Xbox 1. You could get a better desktop for the same price though.

Already got a cheap desktop for family use and don't really want to bet rid so has to be laptop. That's great so should have problems maxing out games with ultra plus mods then?

You will have problems maxing out games. Graphically, pc games are more intensive and laptops struggle with powerful graphics cards.
It will run them smoothly enough though, depending on the game. Some will max, other maybe not, but I guarantee above 60fps on the lowest settings on any game (probably more like 150fps)

So it would be better go fr desktop then? Any recommendations for that price that will max out most games?

If you can, a desktop will offer better performance to cost.
How much is that laptop? You didn't post the price?

Cool, so i take it the 770 is better than 870? Or is it more down to the fact that a desktop is better than laptop? Sorry if this sounds stupid i am a total beginner with pcs. Would like to use mods in games such as elder scrolls and get the best out of the graphics at a mid price range

Yes, gtx770 is better than gtx870m.
You will always get better value for money with a desktop.

I would say that the desktop I suggested is pretty high end.

If you wanted a laptop for convenience but don't need it to be actually a use-on-the-go device, consider a Micro-ATX build. Here's an example:

Case
BitFenix Prodigy Mini-ITX Case (White) This has handles and had a great review here: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2012/09/06/bitfenix-prodigy-review/4
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i5 Quad Core Processor i5-4460 (3.2GHz) 6MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® H87I-PLUS: Mini-ITX, LG1150, USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs
Memory (RAM)
8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X FURY DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (1 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 760 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready Switch the graphics card to a 770 if you can afford to, but this will beat a PS4 easily.
1st Hard Disk
120GB KINGSTON V300 SSD, SATA 6 Gb (450MB/R, 450MB/W) You may want to swap the SSD for a larger hard drive, but you can always add a hard drive easily later when you need it.
Power Supply
CORSAIR 550W VS SERIES™ VS-550 POWER SUPPLY
Processor Cooling
INTEL STANDARD CPU COOLER
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Wireless/Wired Networking
10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT - AS STANDARD ON ALL PCs
USB Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 4 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS
Power Cable

consider a Micro-ATX build.

The spec you posted is mini ITX (smaller than micro ATX)

I'm guessing that spec is quite a lot cheaper than the one I posted?

If you do go down the micro ITX route, I really like the Corsair 250d (I'm considering one for a self build I'm doing.)

Get either the laptop or the desktop, both will beat a ps4. I would personally always get the desktop unless you specifically need a laptop.
