No signal makes my monitor sleepy...

I just received my computer and everything seems to be fine (it beeped once and everything appears to be working) but my monitor isn't receiving anything. I've used two different DVI-D cables, with and without a HDMI adaptor, and a HDMI cable that I use with my Xbox. Nothing seems to want to work.

I opened it up but I'm not exactly super knowledgable about computers. Everything seems to be in place though and like I said, the thing beeps and runs so I'm not sure what else I can do.

Again this might sound silly but is it switched on? Turn the brightness and contrast up full. Can you try a friends monitor to see if that works?

It's switched on, yeah. I've tried it with my monitor and two HDMI tvs. I suppose I could attempt to use a friend's monitor. It's worth a try ...
