Wondering what the cooling and temps was like on this with 3d load with a six core 2011 cpu.
Also why there is no option for nvidia 8 series gpu?Or if this is a future spec that will be added.
If so when ?

I presume your thinking of running the 4930k and dual 780m GPUs? If that's the case then it will run hot, no getting away from that. The temps will be 'safe' but cramming that much power into a laptop if going to be tough to cool. It is a big chassis, and it will weigh a good bit too, though I presume ultra portability isn't really a consideration here.

I presume this is something like your build is going to look like? You could spend far far less, upgrade in a year or 2 with the money saved to a new spec and still get real close to maxing out anything you like. But im guessing from your OP that's not really of interest.

Thats about same i was looking at , gone with the 2011 as it supports 40 lanes of pcie, unlike others which dont.
No point having sli , with 2 x16 lane gpus, when the cpu wont run them as full x16.
Usually with the heat i use a good laptop cooler. or what i did with my old alienware was custom make a mesh cover, and fit fans to it
i saw a 15 degree c drop in temps .
Looks good spec, may even get the missus a new lappy for her photo stuff, old one getting too slow now .

Yeah a cooler would be a good idea, I cant even begin to imagine how much eat that thing is going to throw out. What puts me off is the price of that thing, but hey if your pockets are deep enough then go for it.

Just been thinking now!mmmmmmmmmmmm.
Haswell E due out soon and the gtx880m, could it be beneficial to wait and see if they implement these into a laptop ???????
Would be willing to wait, rather than waste my money now , then want one with the above?
Help info be great, I have scoured the web and no joy on info or release dates, or if pc specialists will be doing a laptop, boy oh boy would I buy it ???? Weeeeeeeeeeeee

I wouldn't hold you breath, it will take a while (if ever) PVCS get round to making a laptop with a desktop processor available. The performance jump isn't going to be the be all and end all. The GPU on the other hand might be worth waiting for.

My general advice is not to wait. If you wait for the GPU some new other components will just be a few weeks away and so on. By the time you know it its almost time for the 900 series GPU's.

they already make a laptop with a desktop cpu!!!!! and the new haswellE is a 8 core 16 thread cpu, so improvement I would say defo, will blow all the extreme cpu's out the out the water , from the specifications leaked out . so yeh cpu is worth waiting for .And for the graphics can always be upgraded when they come out, but haswell E needs a new socket 2011-3, so the 2011 one in omega ii laptop will not take it ?
AS for new techno being few weeks away all the time, I am looking at the time line for intel cpu release as well, broadwell not till 2015 Q2 due to problems, plus 40 new haswell refresh cpu's out this year alone, but when they make the extreme they sually take a year or 2 beforethey bring a new extreme out for the models i.e core2quad then sandy e then ivy e then haswell e etc ,I will wait a month see what happens in march .

I think you misread my reply, but I wasn't very clear so i will try again.

When I said it will take PCS a while to get round to making the laptop with a desktop processor, I was referring to PCS getting a laptop in that can support the NEW CPU not PCS getting a laptop that supports a desktop CPU period.

Why are you so concerned about the CPU being up to the job, this is after all a gaming setup. The 4930k is going to play every game out at the moment very easily indeed. I mean its double the performance of the accepted gamers choice desktop CPU at the moment, so really I would advise you don't concentrate so much on the CPU as its not going to help your FPS by waiting for the next CPU along the line.

I'm not entirely sure what you understand what your letting your self in for in a machine of this spec, the heat output is going to be immense, it will weight a ton and in general laptop GPU's are hard to upgrade. PCS offer the service but its certainly not something you will be doing at home.

Good idea to go with the selected spec, it will play whatever you want and if it cant it certainly wont be due to the processor.

I would be a bit wary of just expecting to swap out the GPU's for whatever the latest and greatest 800 series cards are. You would have to look carefully at whether or not the motherboard supports the cards, the power requirements and all sorts of boring stuff like that. I don't anticipate you needing to upgrade for a while though, dual 780m's is one hell of a setup in a laptop and for pure theoretical performance is getting close to high end desktop cards.

Enjoy it and only go on holiday to places that are cold, or have great air con. That thing is going to pour heat out of it. I look forward to reading a review of it :)

well I have decided on the laptop and spec now, but omega ii only offers 770m sli, no 780 option,( which I find a little off, due to other high end components in the laptop.)
Also I have a price query of which I am waiting on a reply, the upgrade price to the 4960 equates to £100 more than can buy retail for the chip, when taken that ,try to follow me , lol
4960 retail £740
4820 retail £240
which in my adding up is a £500 difference.
But when you change the spec in the laptop from 4820 to a 4960 the price goes up by £600
which says you are paying over £100 extra for the chip, with PCS than you can buy the chip retail?? does that make any sense ??? or am I wrong. After motorcycle accident brain don't work to well, post concusion syndrome, great.lol.Also I found out from another retailer that the gtx 880mx with 8 gig gddr5 is out on Monday 3/3/2014. yet PCS know absolutely nothing about it , does make you wonder about the competence of some of there staff, and worries me a little, from the sales information point of view.
Good idea to go with the selected spec, it will play whatever you want and if it cant it certainly wont be due to the processor.

Not being aware of the release of a new gpu shows lack of competence? A bit harsh don't you think? I couldn't follow the bit before about the difference in price of the CPU.

PCS have commented on this sort of thing before (if I can find the thread I'll link it here: [HOLD]), I think they were saying that higher end components in a rig/laptop/configuration typically lead to more returns/issues/problems down the line (whether that be due to faulty parts, user error, the type of users etc. I'm not trying to say) but that's why the price increase is sometimes more than the component cost itself.

that's like saying, we charge you extra in case it breaks and costs us money to fix it,so the extra 100 you pay is just in case! the item breaks down. You end up paying the repair yourself, even though there is a warranty on it .
like selling a car, and saying I know its more than in another garage , but just incase it knackers we repair it and doesn't cost us as much ?????????

Its more like selling a ford to buy a Ferrari and complaining because you have to pay more for a service... which is what you have to do.

I'm not 100% sure that's an accurate portrayal of what was said. That was the gist I got from what I read in the thread (which I can't find). So take it with a large pinch of salt.
