Well i presume this is a gaming machine?

If so then you could cut back on a couple of components, and get yourself nearer your budget if you need to.

The most obvious candidate is the CPU, swap to the 2.2GHz CPU will save you about £100 and is only 10% slower. Drop to 4GB of the 1333MHz RAM as the kingston isn;t going to give you any performance gain. A 240GB SSD is a very big SSD, if i were you i would consider a 120GB SSD and getting a portable HDD for your music and photos etc.

If i had to pick one of those i would opt to drop the SSD down a notch, that would save you £120 and spend £50 of that on a USB hard drive. Just depends how much you need to save really.

EDIT

Upgrading to 8GB of RAM could be helpful as TJ suggested, especially as you want it to last a while.

Thanks folks, I did actually have the cheaper quad core in mind........think I will change that and the ram. But the ssd I want to keep simply, because I have never had one, always had normal drives so I really want to give that a go and that is the biggest i can afford, it should be enough. It will only be used for gaming really, no music or movie storage...may also drop the blu ray drive as most blu rays I buy have DVD disks also included anyway.

Yeah that spec is almost identical to the one posted above in terms of real world performance, it just costs a bit less. Go ahead and get it ordered!

Doh! Ordered and 30 seconds later realised I'd forgot to put my discount code in, rang immediately but unfortunately I was told they could not guarantee to honour the discount.....so cancelled! And now I need to wait for the credit card refund before I order again. Curse you enter button! :stupid:

Mind you I would have thought it would have been easy to do to apply the discount via the phone as I gave the code and it was obvious I had just ordered but there you go! A risk to possibly loose a customer however, all for a few quid which would be nothing to them?

For that spec, a couple of things you should know, firstly, upgrade that thermal paste. Secondly, you can drop the wifi card down one notch. I think the ultimate n 6300 even has better range. Also, what i would do is drop the SSD to a 120GB kingston then get a 500GB black scorpio which is still a very fast drive. Put the OS, most frequently used programs and boot programs on the SSD, the rest on the HDD. You will then have to buy an external disk drive. I would get the spec below, much better gaming and all round.

Yeah that would be a bit of a pain. Lets face it, no company wants to give away money and if it was an online discount code then it was an online discount code. OK £15 isn't much on a single machine, but just think what it would be like if someone posted the code on the forums, 100's of people would probably want a refund after ordering.

I really do feel your pain, the waiting is the worst part.

Rep given! Well, possibly my mistake when ordering could work out ok then! I will consider this as I don't really need a DVD drive as I doubt I'd use it much.....if at all.... Decisions, decisions.....I have about 6 days to ponder over this now? :sweatdrop::sweatdrop:

It was a code from ********* so anybody could use it......still, have you seen the latest spec above? Tempting.....

Oh, just seen the entry re. Fast track! Woo hoo! Thanks for that......
