PC Specialist Review

Hi all,

I would just like to leave my review for PCS here. Sorry if it's in the wrong sub-forum.

I have spent nearly 3 months looking for the right computer (price, specification etc) and finally opted for one at PC Specialist. A friend of mine bought a computer from you a while back and said you and your services that you offered were amazing, so much so, his partner bought one from you and even she said you were brilliant. Obviously, PC Specialist were living up to their name in specialising in building quality PC's.

It turned out I needed to upgrade my old laptop to a much beefier PC, it appeared it was on its last legs when playing games and with next-gen games coming out, now was the time to upgrade.

I looked around on your website for pre-built specifications and I found one or two that were either slightly out of my price range or what I believed to be 'not good enough'. I eventually decided to customise a PC (base price £1250) and try and suit it to my needs.

One of the most helpful things I found was your customiser. I like how you set out your parts into different sections and have drop-down boxes instead of it all being on one page with a mass block of text. Simplicity is the key I do have to say. Going through each individual section was really nice and you can choose and think about your parts before you add them; and if you're ever stuck, your simple and friendly on-line help team are swift to answer any queries. You wouldn't receive that sort of help from big named companies like PC World.

Ordering was simple, pick your parts and carry on through to payment. Again, I was not disappointed. It was a smooth transaction and faultless. I was planning to put it for the 5 day dispatch but unfortunately I missed out on it by 14 hours. I was now wondering if I would receive it in time for Christmas (ordered on the 10th December - average build time was 14 days). Either way I continued and everything was normal.

"Order Processing" - It took 7 days for that to clear (I honestly felt like it was going along at a snails pace - I know you have other computers to build but I couldn't really think of what would be happening for 7 days) - this is one of the only minor faults I have with PCS. Pre-production was fine (took 3 days to clear). Again, clearly notified when my PC had gone into the next stage by email or by text. Again very useful and appealing after a long day of college. You wouldn't receive service like that. Build day came and so did test day (both on the same day - I was amazed!) Which again makes me wonder if that can happen in 1 day, what was happening in processing? My PC went into QC on the same day as well, again I was amazed. This was on the 20th December - my order was marked for collection as moosEh said I could come and collect it before Christmas if it was ready and if it wasn't they would send it out after Christmas. Your active forum does also help, you can't fault that either. I was planning on using a keyboard from our old computer but it turned out my mum had thrown out a perfectly working keyboard - sacrilege! I simply amended my order to include the £5 keyboard (£1150 PC and £5 keyboard - bargain!). The order went through swiftly and was going to be included with the computer.

It was set to awaiting dispatch (22nd), and my dad said we're not going to collect it on the 23rd or 24th as the traffic would be busy - a crap excuse if you ask me! :p I jumped online to your help service and I do have to say your colleagues on their are amazing (Mustafa Ramzan I think his name was, I do apologise if I got it wrong :) You were amazing and so helpful). I asked if they sent it out on the 23rd will I get it before Christmas) He said I would and marked it for delivery. A few hours later it was dispatched and a confirmation email from DPD was received. The 24th came and DPD delivered 3 minutes after they said they would be here (blummin brilliant). Can't fault them either.

I unpackaged my new PC and I do have to say it was packaged brilliant, miscellaneous items on top and the PC on bottom. Can't fault it, no damage to outside box either, it looked perfect. I got my PC set up with internet, monitor and new accessories and I have to say it was easy as 1,2,3. Your Important Setup Email about connecting your monitor to the graphics card was also very helpful, I even found that the motherboard output slots had covers over them to stop you doing so. A very handy thing to include.

So far so good, my new PC has been brilliant. I can't fault it. I can play BF4 and other top end games on ultra settings without fault.

PC Specialist are a brilliant team of experts with the expertise of geniuses. You couldn't fault them. I highly recommend them to anybody who is planning on buying a PC as you will not get service like that from anybody else.

Pro's:

-Very helpful staff (especially online team)
-Easy to see item chooser
-Easy to understand part picker
-Easy to understand order tracker (amazing!)
-Fast building time & dispatch time

Cons:

-Long processing time

Other than that perfect.

Suggestions

-If items are out of stock (eg Extra Case Fans) still include in the part picker but show that they are out of stock (red warning label or something). I wondered were these had gone and it turns out they were out of stock.
-An option to come and collect on the delivery options on the part picker instead of marking for collection AFTER you have ordered. This may help some people.

Other than that I could not PC Specialist. I thank you greatly, especially:

Sorry for the long review but I thought I may as well do it! Thanks PCS! I will definitely come to you again.

Have a great new year all, regards

Good to see positive reviews BUT you forgot to post the actual spec!

but I couldn't really think of what would be happening for 7 days

You have to remember that they are a big company and get a lot of customers nationwide (you see their adverts on TV and at the England football matches) and will have been really busy at Christmas.
