Plagued by BSOD

I keep getting BSOD, usually when playing WOW. Run scans and no Virus, Malware or Rootkit. GPU and windows update is up to date and I have uninstalled a few things that I have recently installed.

I got a BSOD on start up this morning with the following error codes:

0x000000f4, 0000000000000003, fffffa8009207470, fffffa8009207750, fffff800031da270

And last night when playing WOW I had the following error codes:

0x000000f4, 0000000000000003, fffffa8009297060, fffffa8009297340, fffff800031d6270

Any help or advise will be great

The F4 code points to storage device error. First thing to try would be to update any storage drivers like Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) or the motherboard chipset drivers, then run a chkdsk /f on the drive your running WOW off. Then if that fixes all errors / doesn't find any errors, try running an sfc /scannow 3 times in a row.

Ok thanks but how do I do all that?

I think I have managed to update the firmware on my SSD. Run a chkdsk on the SSD and pending now but how do i do a src /scannow?

It's sfc /scannow, after you've done the chkdsk, its done the same way as in open an elevated command prompt and type that command, hit enter and wait til it's complete. Each pass will take around half an hour depending on the size of the disk.

chkdsk came back with nothing and the sfc /scannow took 30 sec each time and came back saying "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

You need to make sure your chipset drivers are up to date, they may not be intel, you need to go to your motherboard manufacturers website and download from there.

But how will I know if they are out of date? I don't know what chipset driver version I have now so won't know if it needs updating.

Also what about the new BSOD image above

When did you last update them? if you install the same ones you currently have installed, it won't cause any issue.

7a points to driver failure. Do you update drivers from the manufacturers websites or are you still on the ones initially sent out with the system?

The only Drivers I update is the Nvidia card direct from Nvidia. Everything else I wont have touched and will be as shipped by PC Specialist, this is why I don't know how to update everything or what the versions currently are. It is an ASUS® Z87-A: ATX but the BIOS says AMI.

When I look on the sites for drivers there are so many different thing I don't know what to select

Ok, so you need to go to http://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/Z87A/HelpDesk_Download/ to support/downloads and install the following drivers (only the latest on on each which should be at the top of the list):

1/. Chipset: Intel Chipset Driver
2/. LAN: Realtek LAN Driver
3/. SATA: Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Driver Software
4/. Audio: one for your os (there are only 2)

Touch wood, that'll do for now, audio shouldn't be involved in the bsod. Keep an eye on it and see how it goes.

It's worth keeping drivers up to date as windows updates and new software or other updates like graphics drivers can mean an old driver becomes incompatible and causes bsods or freezes which can be a pain to diagnose.

Touch wood that helps.

Keeps happening on with an F4 error code again now.

Format and reinstall windows now?

That's the next step unfortunately. I'd keep a backup of all your motherboard drivers on a non-os disk so that you can install them after install (often you won't have network connection with a base install although that's unusual these days).
