Hi guys,

Im going to be using this PC for dual monitor gaming. I will be playing games in one window whilst streaming TV/Movies in the other or watching youtube/displaying a web page.

The games will vary from high end shooters to WoW and LoL.

Should i go for an overclocked processor given the multi-tasking that will take place? And would i be better off with SLI cards or fine with the GTX680?

I know i don't need the 16 gig of ram for gaming but at the current prices its a shame not to so I wont be altering that factor.

One last question: How loud will this build be? I dont need a silent PC but anything louder than a hum will drive me nuts, any improvements that I can make to keep the noise down but retain high cooling?

Cheers!

Im not sure on the loudness but changing down to the super quiet cpu cooler willl not result in a big increase in temp so i'd go for that. If you really want it to be quieter you can swap out case fans for 'silent' fans from somewhere on the internets.
Other than that it is a great looking build and will be able to do exactly what you want from it :)

For gaming and playing videos you wouldn't need an overclocked processor. 1xGTX 680 or GTX 670 will be sufficient for your intented use, having an additional GPU will generate may generate more noise. The graphics card is likely to be the most noisy part in your spec, I notice the noise of the fans at more than 50% speed.

If you are worried about noise maybe consider a fan controller? If you hook up your fans to the controller you can dial them down when you're not doing anything taxing with the PC and turn them up a bit when you are (and hopefully wont notice as much!).

Thanks for the responses guys. Im judging from the responses that the parts etc are decent and i shouldn't have any troubles. Is it worth getting one of the quiet cases like the Fractal F3 or do they not have sufficient air flow?

I think there is a trade off between keeping low levels of noise and better cooling when you choose a quiet case. If you are planning to have a SLI set up you may want to consider a full tower case.

Ok, ive taken the advise from this thread and my last one on board and i think im getting closer to a final build. I have dropped to a 670 and 8 gig of ram which allows me to take a modular psu, full tower case with built in fan controller, power line adaptors and a tidy gaming keyboard and mouse. How does this build shape up? Would you take this one or the one at the start of the thread (i have a perfectly adequate networking solution and keyboard and mouse)?

Will this build allow me to add another 670 when the need arises or will i not have enough spare power on the psu?

Thanks!

Yes but if you are planning in adding more components like an additional hard drive or fan controller you may want to consider an 850w PSU.

The configurator gives a 20% allowance for the PSU so you would be fine with a 750W even adding other components.

£1665 budget gaming pc

Hi guys,

I have a budget of £1665 for a new gaming rig and was wondering if you could spec me one up please?

I require two monitors within the budget (the Iiyama 22" models seem the best bang for buck but whatever you think) and would prefere a razer naga mouse and Lycosa keyboard included. Powerline adapters and silver warranty would be nice too ;)

The build is purely for gaming, BF3, Shogun 2, Guildwars 2 and a range of mmo's rts's and fps's in the future. I will be gaming in one screen with an active desktop on the other for web browsing during loading screens and youtube/netflix while mmo'ing (bare that in mind please with processor/ram etc)

hopefully i can settle on a build today/tomorrow and get this ordered!

Thanks!

Oh one last thing, I would like the option of upgrading in the future to sli (unless you recommend i do it now) for future proofing and cooling is important to me as no one likes fried silicone for breakfast!

Whilst i appreciate that you are trying to save space, I started a new thread to get a totally new opinion on a build not just an edit of what I had in mind. I was hoping for a perspective that was not influenced by the spec sheet I had already posted.
