Replacing fan LED's

I have been looking all over for some 200mm case fans with green LED's for my HAF-X but am really struggling to find any. I have managed to get a 230mm for the front and a 140mm for the rear but the side and top 2 just seem to be impossible to find (could only find red and blue LED fans) so I thought I would look into buying a red/blue LED fan and just replacing the LED's with green ones.

I found this video on youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZ8OVK4AQs4&list=FL37ABxk3L512PtzUYJzDNbw&index=1

Now I am a little sceptical about doing this as I have no access to any equipment for starters and have never done anything like this before so I was wondering if anyone would be able/willing to do this for me?

I could give you all of the money to cover the parts/equipment, i.e. the fans, LED's, soldering wire etc or I could just buy it all myself (with guidance from someone) and send the parts to you.

I would be willing to pay a little extra as well for your time and effort as well.

Just reply to this post or PM

Many Thanks

Liam

That's about 15 minutes worth of work per fan. I can do this for you if you wish. I have all the equipment. You just send me the fans and led's. Send them to me boxed and enclose enough for return postage. Also stick in a 100ml miniature (about £5) of Jack Daniels honey whisky and we'll call it quits. If that's ok let me know and I'll PM you my address.

Sounds cool to me, although I'm not sure about what LED's to get. Any recommendations? do they have to have a certain resistance or anything like that?

They need to be the same voltage rating. Be sure to get LED's about the same diameter too. Although I can open the hole out if required. I use standard fans and have never thought about this but if you have seen some of the mods I have done, you are in good hands. I will just replace the LED's with the current ones. If you want I can check the voltages etc. No problem. Then order the LED's if you are unsure. This would mean sending me the fan and me ordering them.

I read up that the fans from there dont match up to the mounting holes on the HAF X case. And the 200mm ones on bitfenix are only 200mm x 20mm.

I need 200mm x 30mm. I dont understand why they are so hard to come by in green

That's fine with me. Just let me know when you receive it.

I've ordered 3 of the blue ones from Amazon and it has an estimated delivery date of the 27/07/2013 so as soon as i get them i'll PM you or something to get your address unless you want to PM me your address in advance. Cheers

My rear 140mm green LED fan came today (hooray) so im going to be installing that when i get home from work. Whilst i have got my case open i may as well give it a bit of a clean, now, the case fans and fan filters arent a problem to clean (i can remove them completely to clean so i dont have to worry about dust flying everywhere) but what about the other components? like the fan on my GPU and CPU cooler and just general internals of my PC.

I have some compressed air in a little spray bottle, some people swear by it whilst others treat it like the plague.

Does anyone have any advice/tips for cleaning the inside of your PC?

When I clean my PC I generally use a small brush and a can of compressed air. I also have my wife's dyson in the case sucking up all the dirt that is dislodged. If you cannot get to the heatsink on your CPU cooler with a brush and compressed air take it off and clean it. Remove the GPU and take off the GPU cowl / dust and clean it with a brush and air.

Well I changed my rear fan for the new one that came in the post:

I know it doesn't seem like much but I've never changed a fan or done any modding of any kind before :D

Just have to wait for my other fans to arrive now

Looks good. A good mod may be a Coolit Eco alc. Pretty good CPU entry level liquid cooler.

Got my wrist slapped for give some buying advice not related to buying direct from PC Specialist.

Personally, i've heard stories on the Coolit ECO ALC bursting a few times.

Most people don't even need a liquid cooler, i probably don't lol

Nobody needs one. Just like nobody needs a green led fan. If you want to get more out your CPU and your air cooler is stopping you doing that the a Coolit eco alc would do that. I have just looked at your rig. Would you not agree a smaller cooler with higher cooling efficiency would look much better.

Personally, i got the H100 cause it looks nice and does a good job. Even though my CPU is OC'ed, i have no real need for the H100 as it's equivalent air cooler would do the same job.

Like i say, it all depends on what you want to use the rig for.

I'm just awkward in the fact i got it cause it looked nice lol

Halox, I didn't "slap your wrists" your were advertising your ebay listings. I simply removed them. Also if a moderator or admin edits your post, please do not remove that edit.

I'd also like to add that the Coolit ECO I is about three generations old, and it is known that they are very prone to Bursting. Not forgetting that if the anyone installed it and it burst, it would result with no warranty (from anyone) and a ruined PC.

I am only having a laugh. LOL. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

PS I didn't just remove the edit. I removed the whole post as it became useless spam.

The Eco is old. It still does a good job. I have only heard of a handful bursting. I don't think though that I have heard of one bursting after the first few weeks though. As I stated in an earlier post they seem to be fine after a few weeks. Perhaps a manufacturing problem.

I am not overly familiar with the H100 although I have seen plenty going around. I have just read up on the performance and it looks good. Although if I had one I think I would change the stock fans.

I was given a Eco II a few days ago. It is the FB 45mm rad model. I was thinking about selling it (not plugging it) but I was also thinking of taking it apart and messing around with it adding a water / water heat exchanger and using the supplied 150 litres / hour pump and doing some tests with various other cooling methods. Like submerging the radiator in running water. Undersoil heat exchangers. etc. I have done some calculations and this could be an excellent efficient green way of cooling. All well and good but without checking it out would be very expensive. The Eco II would be perfect as a base for this. If it works well then perhaps upgrading and going full scale custom loop.
