Any thoughts on this build for 1440p gaming and light video editing?

Will be running on existing BenQ EW2480 1080p / 75hz monitor initially but looking to add a 1440p / 120hz+ in the near future with the 1080p one becoming a secondary monitor.

Would like to be able to game in 1440p with ultra settings and RTX on ideally.

You haven't said what your budget is! Here's something about £70 more. I've downgraded the motherboard and the cooler (both are overkill for the 5600X). I've swapped the main M.2 drive for a much better Samsung one (the ultimate in speed -- you could downgrade to the 970 if you were less concerned and wanted to save a few quid) and given you an additional M.2 to put games on and an HDD for long-term storage (music, video, etc.). You could reconfigure this storage if it's more than you need.

The other thing I've changed is the case, and to be honest I'm a bit tentative. I don't know the Coolermaster case and frankly its looks aren't to my taste, but the reviews are pretty good; the 275R doesn't have great thermal performance.

Agree with the above changing M.2 SSD from Intel to either PCS or Samsung. It's also handy to have an 850W PSU, especially when you start a build with a 3060Ti GPU already. An AMD stock air cooler is good enough. Is there a particular reason you've picked an AIO in the original build?

Only picked an AIO based on a few reviews I saw which said the stock cooler wasn't great (Wraith Stealth?). But if it's ok then that saves a few quid! :)

The Wraith cooler can be a bit loud apparently. The coolermaster 240 is a great cooler, if you want to go for it, then go for it.

If the budget is there, personally I would always go for an AIO, but yes, coolermaster as a minimum, avoid the PCS ones.

Budget around £1500 - £1600. Was thinking of getting a higher spec motherboard l allas would potentially upgrade processor down the line and maybe eventually put in 2 decent NVMe ssds (think the Strix mobo has heat sinks for these and can put them in RAID?).

If the stock cooler is adequate that would save some money, happy to go with that.

Case wise I'm not really sure what's good but looking for something not too deep so it'll fit under my desk... Probably need depth 460mm or less ideally, although most of the available cases under that size seem don't seem to be very highly rated with people

MOST VALUED CONTRIBUTOR
I'd be slightly hesitant to spend a lot on over-speccing the motherboard in the hope of future upgrades: it is quite likely that the next AMD generation won't be compatible with the AM4 slot anyway, so you'll be restricted to the higher-tier 5000 series processors.

Likewise, if you have a well-cooled case, cooling your SSDs is really gilding the lily.

To be clear, I'm not saying "don't go for the Strix": I'm just saying "it's not necessary and it will cost you extra".

Finally, you could go for buying a case from elsewhere and getting PCS to use that. The Corsair 275R Airflow (v. different from the 275R on PCS!) would be a good bet and is on Amazon for under £70.

Oh, and if you want to put your SSDs in RAID you can: you'll need to buy two of the exact same model and capacity. I don't quite know why you'd want to: the speed of the 980 in particular is so ludicrously fast that RAID wouldn't be a perceptible improvement; in any case RAID is not a backup.

What about this spec? I know the case isn't likely to be popular but the ones with better thermals mostly seem to be too big (deep) for my desk. Would these cases cause issues (not planning to overclock)? May change to the recommended 275 Airflow from Amazon... Is it easy to get these ordered straight to PCS rather than having to ship it back to them myself?

Seems to be mixed views on AIO or stock cooler, figured I could get stock and if I don't like it I could fit an AIO myself later (if this is fairly straightforward for a newbie)?

Storage wise I've gone for the one super fast NVMe, would maybe add a large, cheaper SSD for bulk storage later. Sticking with X570 but moved from the Strix to the TUF

In the "Set Partitions" section of my order it says
  1. If you are ordering an operating system from us, this will be installed on to the 1st partition you specify for your first hard drive/SSD
When an M.2 NVMe SSD is included as well as a standard HDD, will the OS be installed on the "1st M.2 SSD drive" by default rather than the "1st Storage Drive"?

PCS should install on the fastest drive available - in this case it would be your M2 SSD.

What did you go for in the end - if you want to put your specs up.

Went for this in the end (have amended the order after placing it, so have manually changed a few bits below to reflect the current spec - added HDD, changed from Windows 11 to 10) - still in pre-production, so may still be time for me to rethink the cooling and go for an AIO :)

For the 5600X, something like the Cooler Master 212 Black Edition would perform admirably temps wise and keep noise down (I had one and it was always nice and quiet for me).

With the system you've got in there, the 4000D doesn't need extra fans. If you were previously adding the Sickleflow fans to add RGB, It'd be much more sensible financially to go for a case that has RGB fans to begin with (4000D + Sickleflow ~£100 VS Cooler Master TD500 £69). Alternatively if you're really pining after the 4000D but want RGB, you could always send in a 4000X yourself then buy the 4000D front panel from Corsair directly to add the high airflow front.

That said, we could also make a few alterations to the rest of this build (mobo and storage layout especially) so a link, budget and uses would be great if you'd like us to suggest those changes

Budget is ~£1600 - £1700.

For the case, I need one that's not too deep - the 466mm is probably already pushing it space wise (allowing for ventilation space behind it). Don't mind not having RGB - would dropping from the 3 Sickle Flow fans to just 1 or 2 of the Thermaltake TOUGHFANs (or no extra case fans at all) be a good move?

Main use will be casual gaming (currently only 1080p 75hz monitor but will be changing to 1440p 120+hz soon, probably IPS - not too fussed about extreme high FPS gaming. May occasionally use it with a 4k TV. Will also be used for remote working (Teams, MS Office etc), and occasional light video editing / Photoshop.
