just got "Your order has now been built and is awaiting testing and configuration." from PCS so hopefully I'll have my laptop by the end of next week. :)

For anyone else in a similar waiting situation, I'm on 10th working day, 12 calendar days since I ordered.

Unfortunately I've spent the whole weekend trying to fix the bloody thing. It would appear that the hard drive has failed. Every time I turned the laptop on it reported an error and requested the boot cd. The first time I turned it on I had to reinstall the OS with instructions from pc specialist. Having attempted a second reinstall as the OS had failed again the hard drive is completely unselectable for install. Having had previous experience with supporting dell and hp laptops this sounds like a complete hard drive failure.

So far from happy about this it is unreal. Cant help but think that with pcs being so busy corners have been cut and the correct levels of testing was not done.

Mate that's bad news to hear! Although I am sure you are aware hard drives etc can fail at any time and prior to failing are likely to pass any QA/QC tests they may be put through. Even if PCS are busy I can't imagine they would fail to correctly/fully test your rig. In any event get an RMA raised for the hard drive and PCS will get it sorted ASAP!

Hope you get it resolved soon (probably tomorrow now though as it is Sunday)

Will have to spend the day being sociable instead of gaming :) Will get the wife to arrange a return tomorrow.

When it did (briefly) work the laptop was fantastic, I guess its just bad luck on my part.

Might even manage to finish reading a book while its being returned.

Sorry to hear that. I agree with Steaky, components could fail at anytime and it is not in their interest to cut corners with quality control. I had a similar issue with an HP desktop and it took weeks to get it replaced. I am confident PCS will send you a new hard drive straightaway, excellent after sales service in my opinion.

how simples is it to replace ssd hdd on a laptop? Is it likely to need a full return or is it something we could do if they send a replacement?

currently installing windows on the 2nd hdd so I can reinstall gw2 :)

Just taking the cover out at the back and replacing the drive. You could call technical support for assistance on how to do it.

As Ruben said, if you are unsure PCS will be happy to talk you through it. Certainly won't require you to send the laptop back I wouldn't think.

What hard disk was it? I had this in my Vortex III this weekend (got it on Thursday) with the "Special Offer" Kingston V200 SSD, had to take it out and try it in my desktop. Seemed to be working but not in the laptop. Was planning on putting a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive in anyway(just finishing installing BF3 and Lightroom 4.1 AGAIN) and just having the SSD as a working drive for Lightroom in my desktop, so its not a big problem but makes me question the quality of the drive. Hopefully if anything its the drive and not the laptop that is the problem.

The drive is 128GB KINGSTON V200 SSD, SATA 6 Gb (300MB/R, 190MB/W) (Special Offer)
The cynic in me is starting to question why it was on special offer ;-)

Me too. I'm going to run some tests on it, maybe check for firmware updates (although think that also blanks the drive) before getting to the point of requesting an RMA.
Maybe worthwhile us making a separate thread on this.

Mine is coming with one of those too. Hope you were just unlucky and there isn't an issue with them in general.
