Sins Of A Solar Empire

So, after having heard so much about this rare gem of an RTS game I decided to purchase the Trinity edition for £10 seeming as it was in stock for once. The Trinity edition includes the original game aswell as both of the mini-expansion packs. For those of you that don't know, Sins of a Solar Empire is a space-based RTS released in 2008, it is that perfect blend between a real time strategy game and a turn-based global conquest game. (Wiki Page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sins_of_a_solar_empire )... It also has a vast amount of well-done modifications available for it based on various genres, such as Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica (reimagined series'), Star Trek, Star Wars, etc... However unfortuently as the vanilla game even on the lowest settings stressed this PC to its limits, mods were near-impossible to play. Can't wait to try it out on my new rig when it arrives though.

It arrived yesterday and I installed it on the below rather embarrassing rig.

OS: Windows XP SP3
CPU: Intel Celeron 2.2GHz
RAM: 1GB of Kingston DDR SDRAM (Don't know the clock speed, but this was originally 256MB before I upgraded it 'eons ago)
GPU: XFX Nvidia GeForce 6200A (256MB VRAM), was originally a GeForce4 MX440
HDD: 60GB, 4200RPM, 8MB cache..

Now surprisingly, aside from the rather long loading times (impossible to load a save game, as it takes too long) and the freezing every so often due to what is a rather ancient PC - it runs ok on the lowest of settings, yet still looks absolutely gorgeous.

Explaining the gameplay is a little harder, the best I can say is that it is the perfect blend and really easy to pick up and play (assuming you have hours to spare as the average game tends to last quite a while, perhaps several sit-ins. Fortuently the AI is intelligable unlike most games so you won't be forced to try to finish the game in one sit-in or try to bug your mates whenever you wish to arrange a game)... On the off-chance you can't get to grips with it there are several tutorials that are fairly detailed and well made. The only bad thing about the game is the lack of any campaign.

Anyone else have this secret gem?

Heh. Now that's one doomfleet, sadly in-game economy is a painful thing to master though so I haven't personally built anything as fancy yet.
