92 day wait and the thing doesn't work.
90 minutes on phone to tech support and he couldn't figure out what was wrong with it.
Going to try a few things over the weekend, but looks like it's going back

So, whenever I try to run a game, it crashes and shuts down. When i first posted I had only tried VR games(the reason for purchase) but over the weekend i tried flat games. Crashes and restarts on them all.
Phoned back today and they recommended I return it and it will be fixed within several weeks.
not happy

As @SpyderTracks suggested to you on Friday, why not post a thread in the tech support section and we’ll see if we can offer some assistance?

no offence, but this isnt exactly the busiest forum. I have tried looking for help on reddit and some other places where i am a regular poster and nobody can come up with anything.
I phoned PCS for a second time today and the most recent advice is to reseat my RAM, but this would void my warranty!!!!
i was on the verge of just returning it and getting a refund, but i have now decided to just bite the bullet and wait for "several weeks"

No offence taken... I beg to differ on your ‘not the busiest forum’ comment though. The fact that two different people have tried to offer you assistance quite quickly after you’ve posted (within about five minutes on the previous occasion, fifty minutes this time) tells a different story.

Removing and reseating your RAM also would not void your warranty at all, PC Specialist operate an open case policy.

If you don’t want help, that’s fine... but don’t talk rubbish.

I'm not talking rubbish. the woman on my most recent phone call suggested reinstalling windows and reseating RAM, but when i queried if i might then be blamed for any damage, she confirmed that it could void my warranty.
  • If the actions of the person installing the components cause damage to the computer, your warranty will be void;

I’ve moved this into its own thread as it’s not appropriate for the previous one.

This is what I called out as rubbish. Yes, your warranty could be voided if you damaged the components, but you’re doing it at the request of the tech support team. If you’re willing to utilise the forum, you will be given assistance throughout each step involved and advised on the best way to do so. Your statement infers that the warranty would be automatically void should you attempt reseating the RAM, which is patently untrue.

If you’re not comfortable doing simple tasks like reseating RAM that’s perfectly okay, we understand that not everyone is confident getting inside their system. But it’s pretty much the easiest thing you can do, one that you’re almost expected to do as part of troubleshooting a custom PC and it’s difficult to damage the system when doing so. Are you willing to try? We’re happy to guide you through it if necessary.

When reseating components, thats if you physically break something, so a part on the motherboard or the lock lever on a PCIe slot.
Or if you take a screwdriver to something and damage it.

You basically have to do it carefully and not just pull parts about.. Earth yourself before you poke around inside, dont touch anything that you dont know what it is and carefully remove the mount screw, and press the tab down on the slot on the board to remove the card, then carefully reinsert it cleanly and check the lock engages, screw the mount fixing back in.

RAM sticks are just the tab locks, press down and remove then replace into same slot.

Its just checking everything is seated properly, and its part of basic care for the machine, as mentioned, its an open chassis policy.

Did you order with an OS? Have you done all the Windows updates and GPU driver when you got it?
If you can walk through what youve done with the PC since it was delivered that will help, and your spec list also.

I have built my own PCs in the past, I'm confident enough to try it. I had until wednesday to return it, so i planned on spending my day off tomorrow, just checking nothing got loose in transit and reinstalling windows until i was warned about the possible warranty violation. RMA is now set in motion, they needed my passwords and confirmation that i had not tinkered about with it, so i am not going to take the risk

thanks anyway

yes, i updated windows and drivers myself and the tech support guy did it twice on friday

all i have done on it is install steam and gamepass, tried skyrim VR, propagation VR and flat Doom Eternal. All crash to restart within a minute
tech support have ran all sorts of stress tests on it, all of which pass with flying colours

We could easily analyse it, we have a lot more time than the tech support number can offer and can investigate crash reports etc to find out the faulting driver if it's that or the component if it's hardware related.

It's up to you though.

Section 7.8 of the terms and conditions. Open case policy. You aren't risking anything.

Patience and willingness to help on full view here - well done Mods @barlew and @sibun1 - persistence can pay off!!

@sfeeju - it's well a worth a try to see if the guys (or gals - I can never tell!) can talk you through some steps. Might save a lot of hassle for you - nothing to lose if you are careful......

I'm sure someone can take you through a clean install tomorrow, just post and ask for help.

It's more than likely just a windows configuration issue.

If you could please copy and paste your full system specifications from your main PC Specialist account onto this thread when you’re ready we’ll have a look and see what we can do 👍

Sent it back to be fixed, with the following RMA request (which was typed by a staff member over the phone)

PC keeps crashing when playing any games from Skyrim VR and non VR games. it has been happening since day one. In total the diagnostics tried have been:
- Uninstalling and re-installing updated drivers
- Stress testing GPU (system crashed)
- Running Cinebench for 10 mins, CPU hit 70 degrees but the system did not shut down
- Checked for viruses

A few days later I got this message

no post.PNG

This concerned me, as "no post" was NOT the problem, the computer was passing post fine, it was only crashing when i tried to play any game.

A couple of days later, I got this message

fault report.PNG

Got my PC back yesterday, but was working night shift, so couldnt test it until this afternoon.

Sure enough, the problem is still there. It crashes to restart ny time I try to play any game.

Looks like I will be sending it back to get a refund
