I know im not halox, and he might come back and say something different. But I'm under the impression they are essentially the same thing. Although distillation doesn't 'just' remove ions so maybe its better? Not a clue in reality which is better, just trying to remember a bit of A-level Chemistry (maybe this is GCSE chemistry hahaha)

I think distillation is where it is boiled and the condensation is collected (really pure) not sure about deionized.
A level chemistry was the worst thing in the world...

Yeah, sorry they are not the same process but I think distilled water is deionized (whereas deionized isn't distilled obviously)... but I could be wrong.

halox, I dont suppose you know of the difference between distilled and de ionised water? which is best for cooling?

Coincidentally yes. De-Ionised is water which is purified by filters which are rinsed with chemicals to remove the Ions. Distilled water is water purified by boiling and collecting the vapour, the same as the whisky process of distilling. Both processes remove unwanted Ions (the parts that conduct electricity). Both are fine to use. I personally use De-Ionised water as you can also buy double distilled water, which begs the question why do it again? Did it not get all the Ions out the first time? Perhaps it needs a third distillation? Get my point? Whereas De-ionised water works for me. If you know a person in a lab ask them for some Milli-Q filtered water. Supposidly it is even more pure. I don't know as I have never managed to get any. De_Ionised works for me but as you will be pumping the water around a loop containing copper and perhaps aluminium and hopefully silver some Ions will be lifted from these surfaces making the liquid more conductive over time. Hence the reason to check it occasionally. Have a read at the reason for silver and water purification. Its very interesting stuff. You will learn on the water cooling journey some interesting stuff. I know I did.

The other point is yeah the other side of the heat excahnger will be hooked up to my PC.

Slightly off topic fun fact, but: smirnoff gets triple distilled...

looks like im going to opt for blue/uv blue tubing. Even though the ready made fluids/dyes look good, many people recommend going for coloured tubes.

Sounds good. De-I water it is then with a Silver kill coil?

I found out this morning that when I ordered my pump on Amazon, the seller is in China. The expected date for delivery is 27th August. I didn't notice this when I ordered. Bummer! Still, this will allow me to get some other stuff together before it comes, the copper and build a frame.

hey, I'm torn. On one hand I want clear fluid and colured tubes yet on the other hand, i'd like to go for mayhem pure water, with mayhems dye and a biocide. That way I can change the colour every now and then. But Its non uncomon for forum users to suggest no dye because "apparently" it clogs everything up.

ah gutted, atleast you have plenty of time to buy other PC stuff :)

It is really your choice. It is not going to be like a normal PC anymore. That has gone. You will be caring for a supercomputer > LOL. With that great responsibility does come (sounds like Yoda). If you are willing to strip the CPU block for a look every year or so then go for dyes and have fun with it. If not then use De-I and kill coil with coloured tubing. The deciding is part of the fun. It also depends on the loop you will build. Mine takes about 1/2 hour to bleed all the air from fully. If I had a loop that took hours then I would not be wanting to be replacing the liquid regularly.

You don't need a biocide. That's the reason for a kill coil. Costs £5 and lasts forever. It can't fail, can't be diluted, can't cause damage to the system if you put in too much or too little.

Mayhems pure water does sound good. The price tag reflects its spec. As soon as you put in your water loop though its conductivity will increase over time. I like their sales part when you can use Mayhems silver kill coil. What difference does it make if its Mayhems or not if its pure silver?

If in doubt add 1-2 drops of Iodene into the loop. Solved!

been watching alot of youtube videos recently. In one video, Tiny Tom Logan watercooled a GTX titan and a cpu, (a small loop really) he oc'd the gpu, and the max temp was 38c lol. Crazy!

I am away a few days holiday. I'm back tomorrow. I have some pm's but the signal is terrible I'll get back on here tomorrow. Cheers.

I'm not sure yet. A few things have happened that are not good! Family stuff. I will be getting the copper pipe soon and will try some tests before the final installation.

sorry to hear that dude, hope everything gets sorted.
