Thinking of getting a new PC from PC Specialist

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right forum but I am thinking of getting a desktop from PC Specialist. One point of concern is the long delivery times. A friend ordered a desktop on the 22nd April. Now 24th of May, it is still in testing.

Lead times on the ordering page are 7-10 days. Not sure I want to wait over a month

If it's in testing for a long period then that means something failed during the test, from experience testing usually only lasts for a few hours before moving to despatch unless there is a problem. It's likely they had to replace a critical part and are waiting for more stock to arrive of that part. Be worth him ringing PCS to see what's happening exactly. Keep in mind 7-10 days is a current estimate assuming all parts are currently available that have been selected, all pass testing with no issues and this is also working days so no weekends or bank holidays are counted as days

It's not a month if you order stuff that's in stock.

Your friend may have ordered a part that was out of stock, or a closed loop build or something.

But yes, the estimates are just that, but it wouldn't be a month so long as you're ordering in stock parts.

And remember, any reference to days is working days which means Mon - Fri, so 10 days is 2 weeks, 20 days is one month etc.

A lot of people incorrectly assume it's 7 days a week and get frustrated needlessly.

I wonder if maybe they built the system, put it into testing, found a fault but found that the part that needed replacing was out of stock....so it would still show as in testing until the part arrived, at which point it would show as in building again. That's the only thing I can think of that would make sense.

Normally, testing takes less than 24 hours...and, if parts are in stock, from build to dispatch in 2-3 days. Sometimes things take longer of course.
Yeah, that makes sense but they would have let the customer know that, so surprised it's as if the customer has no idea why it's taking so long

I would get some advice before purchasing. Loads of moving and shaking going on in the hardware department just now :)
