Top Spec Category - Product Changes

For anyone that's been on the desktop build recently will know what the title means.

I recently ordered a PC and went to change a few things on the desktop builder tool to see how much (extra or less) it was going to be (because I didn't know there was an amend order button but now I do).

To my surprise there was no Cooler Master Elite 310 Case and no GTX 460 768MB version, I think so far these are the only two products that have been changed that were current in my build, this concerns me.

I've already gone ahead and changed (amended) my CM Elite 310 case for an Elite 430 which luckily didn't cost me any extra as both 310 and 430 were both £35 and just wondered if that was a good change or a stupid one.

Also I've noticed there is no GTX 460 768MB version anymore, it's been replaced with the GTX 460 SE 1GB, Is the SE 1GB version better than 768MB version because I just find it coincidentally annoying how I've just ordered my PC and they've replaced the options with seemingly better ones.

So can anyone just explain why/when they changed the products and expain the differences between the new SE 1GB version and the old 768MB version and the Elite 310 and the Elite 430 they had up?

Thanks,
Lew.

P.S. Sorry if my explanation seems unclear.

This happens all the time mate.
Thats the trouble with technology and especially computers, they are forever being superceeded and you'll never keep up, just a week and a half after buying mine the price of my system went down about £200 due to new components being released. Its something you've just got to deal with unfortunately or if your PC is still in the process of being built, if it is still in pre-production or before, you can alter anything you like for no fee, just pay the extra for the components.

I was looking for more of a "What's the difference between the new SE 1GB version and the old 768MB version?" Kinda thing :p

I believe you also asked: "So can anyone just explain why/when they changed the products"

Fairly obvious difference really, one is a Special Edition and is 1GB and the older one isn't SE and only has 768Mb....

And the cases, its just a more advanced case and better looking from what I can see :) Older one didn't have the see through side panel

Wow, A 768GB GPU would cost a bomb! :p And I guess it's worth +£2 for 232MB of RAM :D

But, Apparently there's less CUDA cores but more RAM, Got anything on the specifics of the SE version? I can't seem to find much about it on the net, because as it stands it seems the 768MB version is better than the 1GB SE version and the 768mb version is £2 cheaper than the 1GB version. :/

Thanks again to nVidia for releasing 3 versions of the same card and confusing the **** outta' me T_T.

The elite 430 case is better than the elite 310 but the GTX460 special edition is the other kind of special (more like slower edition lol) so it's actually worse than the GTX 460 768MB. The elite 310 case is out of stock until the 6th of december so PCSpecialist are absorbing the extra price of the elite 430's and selling them at the same price as the 310's so that people don't have to wait as long for their PC's.

Haha "Special" Edition xD /Agreed I'm not going to be running any crazy 2560 x 1600 30" screens anytime soon so I suppose 1GB RAM isn't too much of a fuss tbh. And That's what makes PC Specialist uber awesome, they're paying more for the courtesy of the customers. Legendary.

the SE (sonic edition) 1gb has replaced the 768. You got it a little muddled there ;) the original 1GB is still about £30 more and better

So can anyone please answer me this simple question:

Stick with the 768MB I have ordered or pay the extra £2 for the SE 1GB?

The 768MB will perform better than the SE(1GB) but I don't think PCS are selling them anymore. The SE is roughly the same as the HD5770, it beats in some game sand loses in other.

Just to clarify here - Nvidia have EOL'd (End Of Life) the 768mb GTX460, because compared to its 1GB counterpart it wasn't selling very well. They've replaced the card with the 1GB GTX460 SE - which despite having 1GB of RAM is a much lower performing card that the standard 1GB GTX460 and also lower performing than the 768MB GTX460.

I would not advise changing from the 1GB GTX460 or 768MB GTX460 to the SE card because you will infact be downgrading your graphics performance. It's worth considering however as an upgrade from a GTX450.

As to what the "SE" stands for, well that's up to you :p

Slower Edition
Secondary Edition
Special Edition

I'm so glad you said that - my order with the 768MB card is in QA. To be swapped for a couple of SLI'ed cards at some future point when prices drop again
