Hey Fellas,
I'm helping a friend build a PCS system for the above. He mainly uses DaVinci Resolve and CAD software with 4k footage and a fair amount of dynamic effects, but may use a music DAW such as Cubase as well. What do you reckon about the below spec? Budget is ~£2k, but willing to go a bit higher for the best performance/price ratio.
I've heard that hardware acceleration in Resolve favours (unsurprisingly) NVidia chips over Radeon via NVidia's CUDA core system. I know AMD have been ramping up their gaming performance of late, but he's not really concerned about high end gaming. He does still need the GPU horsepower though.
I've also been looking at CPU benchmarks and it looks as if the 8-core i7 CPU (10 series) is not too dissimilar in performance to the 10-core i9 equivalent, so I'm thinking to save a couple of hundred quid there.
I've currently opted for the Z490-P motherboard over the cheaper B460-plus, as this enables me to upgrade the RAM speed to 3200mHz and render video slightly faster. I also think it's a generally more future-proof board, but if I'm missing a trick here please do let me know.
The plan would be to run the OS and main software items from the M.2 drive and store current project files on the SSD. He has an array of external HDDs for archive work so deep storage space isn't a huge concern.
He's not concerned with internal aesthetics, so RGB and colour schemes don't matter at all (hence the noctua cpu cooler which I think has the best performance/price ratio).
I'm wondering if any of the experienced builders in these forums would tweak this in any way to provide better 'bang for buck' for video/design work, or point out if i've made any larger oversights!
