...my Scan system has just failed after 6 years - so I need to replace it - I am NOT a gamer - I spent 2 years finishing Alien Isolation - maybe 2 hours a month - the bulk of my time is spent in PP/AE - a bit of PS and AI - basically a lot of the CC suite - but mostly PP. My Scan system was an i7 and a 1060 - with 64GB Ram - the trick to success for me was discreet drives for project/app/cache/data and I have to say - the system was pretty fast - though it did overheat - which is mebe why - eventualy - the mobo failed. Hey ho - so this is what I think may replace it?

I would strongly advise an AMD system. Even for adobe CC, they're now streets ahead of intel in single core performance and for the money, you'll get significantly more power.

Plus a host of other reasons, too many to go through.

You may have been out of the loop for a bit, AMD are now the clear leader in the CPU world. I’d only recommend an Intel processor to someone that I didn’t really like 😜

To the 10900k, the equivalent would be the 5900x but it's quite literally 20% more powerful in single core and about double (no joke) the multicore performance. There's just zero comparison between the two, the 5900x rivals Intels Extreme processors quite happily.

This would walk all over the floor with an Intel equivalent. I don't know what your previous spec came to or your budget, so have mimicked it and adjusted some to be the most expensive, but there may be changes required:
