Hi All
I'm buying new machine for video editing and to run Adobe cs5 - Adobe recommend GeForce Nvidia GTX 285 1GB or Quadro FX 3800 graphics cards which don't seem to be available here is this an alternative 2GB ATI RADEON™ HD 5970 PCI EXPRESS - DirectX® 11? Or should I get the nVidia which I'm a fan of.

Please help!

Thanks

Hello and Welcome! :D

The GTX285 has been replaced with the GTX4xx series of cards and the Quadro FX 3800 is a dedicated 2d card which i believe we may be able to get on request.

What i suspect your after would be a good CUDA card such as the GTX 470/480. I would definately go Nvidia.

The newer GTX4xx cards are not certified yet but im sure they will be. It might be worth firing an email over Adobe's bow to see what the plans are.

The quadro FX 3800 is designed specifically for video editing autodesk and Adobe software (probably more). However, according to this site I found, it outperforms a GTX 260 by 50% in a few of the programs the quadro was built for. The GTX 480 is more than twice as good as the GTX 260, so in theory, The GTX 480 is possible to out perform the Quadro in video editing and the like applications.
