A newly delivered laptop must basically work but what drivers are not installed when it is delivered?

Does it come with a sheet stating what has been/not been installed?

Basically what do I have to do to it before I start loading my applications on it?

That is after windows 7 has downloaded 14 goggle bytes of updates.

Is it easy to set the documents folder to access the data drive (d:) and not the default boot drive (an ssd in my case)?

I did it on my windows XP system somehow!! many, many years ago, but I have slept since then and I have no idea how I did it.

also I see windows 7 has a download folder, can this be moved to the data drive?

I will do the things mentioned in this thread

All necessary drivers should be installed, you can always check in device manager, this will tell you if any driver problems exist.
There are registry hacks out there for moving data folders to another drive but I wouldn't recommend them.
Here are a couple of good tutorials, though not exactly straightforward.
The first link is titled "How to Create User Accounts on another Partition or Disk During Windows 7 Installation" but it also gives instructions on moving user profiles after installation.

i'll go and have a look at the sites, thanks

i read in these fourms of people having to install things like fingerprint driver, thx driver etc. so i assumed only a sub-set of drivers were installed.

thanks for the info

There could be "optional" software on the driver disk that may not be installed, but it's easy to install from the disk if you require it.
