Hi

I'm currently saving up for a gaming rig (will take me about 3-4 months for the spec id like

Anywhoooo my brother has just gave me a BRAND NEW ASUS 670 2GB graphics card fully sealed etc
Problem is I don't own a PC at all until I save up the money to order one here.

So im thinking should I keep the Asus 670 for a few months and order my pc with no dedicated gfx card and save some money OR sell the card now and put towards my gaming rig.

I really wanted the Asus 670 as looks lovely and a great brand and after speaking to PC Specialist live chat earlier they are currently using Palit 670's

Leaning towards keeping the card and hopefully installing it successfully myself mmmmmmmm

Yep keep it. I love my Asus GPU and will be getting the 680 for my new rig.

You will get all the cables, you could also send your gtx 670 to them to get it fitted and installed for you.

As Keynes has said, you can always send the card to PCS for them to fit for you (after asking them first of course!). But the only cable's you will need are the PSU cables and PCS usually supply you will all of the cables supplied with the PSU and the rest of the PC components (as far as I know) so you'll have no trouble at all installing the graphics card when you get the rig. It is very simple

The advantage in sending it to PCS to install though is they will test the rig with the graphics card installed, so any hiccups will be highlighted early on

I'll have a think about either sending it in or doing it it myself.

The only worry is if im sending it away and for some reason it gets damaged or it's faulty then its my problem.
If I do it myself and there's a problem at least I know it was unavoidable etc and no one to blame.

When I order the PC I'll double check with pcs that I get all the cables I need

Always worth checking I guess, but you'll only need to PSU cables (which you'll get).

Ok well faster than expected im almost ready to build my rig!!

All I need now is my monitor and speakers...which are both coming on Friday!
Nervous and hopefully everything works ok!

Nice. PM me if you have any trouble. Be sure to check that the high proifile ram will fit with your cooler master 212. You may need to swap it for corsair gskill/sniper.

*Edit* Ive looked into this and so long as you raise the cpu fan a little (it attaches with clip on brackets) you will be fine. I think your mobo uses the 2nd and 4th slot for an 8gb kit.

Yeah uses slot 2 and 4 so hopefully that helps!
Regarding raising the fan?? Is that just clicking it on slightly higher than it should be? Or will it be fine if in slot 2 and 4?

edit - oh how did you apply your thermal compound? blob in the middle or spread it out? I hear so many different ways to apply it lol

Here you can see the side of my 212. See how I've attached it horizontally (at the top and bottom of the heatsink) with the little brackets that come attached to the fan. You are gona fit yoursthe same way just a leave little bit of space at the bottom (ie the side closest to the ram). Its easy to clip on these brackets and they just snap on and off so you can experiment.

Yeah ill position it vertically like you have with fan forcing air to the back of the case.
Shall I just clip the fan on normally or lift it slightly so its clipped higher away from the ram?

I placed a dot on the cpu, got some cling film, put it over my finger and used that to apply it evenly and my temps are great. Any of the options laid out in the tek syndicate video above will be fine. Like static electricity too much emphasis is placed on this - having paid money for your cpu I'm sure you'll be careful, and you will know pretty quickly using HWmonitor if you have a problem.

I'd have a play about with your board.

Remove the stock cpu cooler plate & replace it with your own(mine was blue with silver screws. your cooler will proivde you with a back support that goes under the motherboard - consult your manual)
1 Install the cpu minus the silver heatsink
2 Now install the ram
3 Before applying thermal paste place your heatsink in position to see how much space you will need, make a mental note of how much clearance (if any) you require
4 Clip on the fan accordingly
5 Apply your thermal paste
6 Attach Heatsink, screw it in

Yeah l have ordered a cheap static band but its still not turned up yet.

Anywhooooo im still waiting for my monitior to come in the post!!! Should be here before 6pm so not even sure if PC is working lol

But started the build a couple of hours ago and AFAIK everything has gone quite well.
Done a little cable management but I may need to redo as im a total noob....looks ok to me atm though

Yes I know the drive is not at the top but it looked better inside for cable/airflow

Just hope it doesnt explode when I get the screen connected and powered on!
