Which SATA connection?

Hi guys,

So my new WD Caviar Black has arrived :) without a SATA cable :(

Anyway, I currently have 3 things plugged into (numbered) SATA ports 1, 2 and 3 on my ASUS motherboard as below:
1. Current WD Green HDD
2. DVD drive
3. Front panel eSATA connection

That leaves me with SATA ports 4, 5 & 6 empty.

My WD Black is going to be installed as my primary drive and the WD Green will be for backups.

1) Does it matter which SATA port I connect my WD Black to?
2) Can it go into 4, 5 or 6, or am I better off plugging it in to SATA 1 and plugging the secondary drive into SATA 4, 5 or 6?

1) It'll work fine.
2) Numerically it doesn't matter.

However I find it handy to have my HDDs plugged in port 0, 1, 2, 3, etc., and optical drives from 9, 8, 7, 6 etc.

Jeeez, how many drives do you have! lol

Good point though, I'll probably move them accordingly.

My desktop is as such:
Port 0: 60GB SSD
Port 1: 640GB HDD
Port 2: 3TB HDD
Port 3: 1TB HDD
Port 4: 1TB HDD
Port 6: DVD-RW
Port 7: BD-R

It's not strictly correct since it has two separate SATA controllers with their own numbers, but that's how it works out.

I meant that it was standard for motherboards to have 8 SATA ports nowadays :)
