Windows 7 product key

Hey,

I already have a copy of Windows 7 from the last time I purchased a PC from PC specialist. Just got a new work laptop through the post and I'm trying to find out where my product key for my old PC can be found so I can use it on my new laptop. It's not on the disc, case or manual I received with my last PC specialist purchase. I'm assuming that once I've paid for a copy of Windows 7 it's good for a finite number of uses on other machines?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Ah, okay found it. Feel a bit stupid for not checking there before...

Am I right in saying I'm able to use that product key for both my desktop and laptop?

Afraid not,the original product (OEM)key you have is tied to the computer it was supplied with,

So you only get one install and use per version of Windows you buy? Why on earth do they even give you the option to buy Windows if you're clearly going to need it on any machine you buy?

I assume this means I'm going to have to purchase another copy of Windows then?

The version of windows supplied by PCS is OEM,which means it can
only be used on the computer supplied.
If you buy a retail version it can be installed on any computer,
but only on one computer at a time.

Yes only one install because otherwise people would be buying windows 7 and supplying to friends/Family aswell and that would lose ms money,Even if you buy a win 7 in the store its the same its not just pcs version. They give you the option because some people dont want windows 7 on there pc?,Maybe theyve got a windows 7 disk/key they havent used?Or theyd just prefer to use a different os that they would supply themshelves with,And yes you would need to buy another windows 7 unless you use ubuntu or something.
