I opened my Proteus up and can confirm there was a plastic shield layer that you can pull off. I pulled mine off to see the ram and ssd etc but didn't notice any thermal change. The Proteus I have can idle at 45-50 and around 70- 80 under load/Gaming with the max fan speed button set to on...

Hi Scott, The monitor I have is an Acer 1440p with Freesync 144hz. And I know what you mean, makes sense to wait for the new cards to come out. Just really want to get back to the PC again. Since I have been stuck using an old PS4. Thought about upgrading later down the line.
