13.3" Lafité

Trying to convince my girlfriend that she needs a new laptop so that I can get my hands on one :) Configured as below I think the pricing is spot on. The only thing that would stop me getting it for myself is the lack of mouse buttons. I cannot stand this on a windows pc as, with multitouch gestures enabled, you find yourself accidentally zooming the whole time! Otherwise this would be perfect:

I have a question

Do u provide drivers for win7? if not will the win 8 drivers work as the OS is similar.
also is it possible to configure it without the HDD, since i have my own m4 crucial SSD

If you log into your PCS account on the main homepage, there's a section called downloads and in there there will be windows 7 and windows 8 drivers.

You need to order one HDD as they need to install the OS to it for testing. You can call PCS directly and ask if you wanted to supply your own SSD, but I don't think they'd be able to accomodate that for warranty purposes. PCS themselves don't monitor these forums.

Has anyone bought one of these yet?
I'm currently using my girlfriend's macbook pro and want something similar but a lot cheaper for myself.
How will this compare in regards to build quality?
I'm planning to go for i5 with bare minimum as i already have a 256gb SSD and 8GB of ram.
Also has this got backlit keyboard?

I have one on order I'll post a review once it arrives and I've had a play with it.

I have to say that I am a bit dissapointed at the fact that PC specialist cannot offer customisation without HDD or RAM. HDD and RAM are so common and modular, we all have them in excess, i should not be forced to pay extra 50-60 quid to simply buy RAM and HDD which will immediately swap upon arrival and probably sell on eBay. They can test the build with their RAM and HDD, post me the specs of the RAM and HDD, so if i have any problems i/they will know wats to blame, e.g. not my own HDD/RAM.

At least they allow to order without windows, which saves £80. which is nice!

Although I see your point, I think that's picking at hairs a little. The customisation is excellent, like very few others can offer. I don't see that as an issue and understandably it would negate their warranty terms.

I don't have spare ram or HDD. If you still your own ram and HDD I think it would be even more difficult for the average user to troubleshoot or identify any faults.

Got one on order too so will post back as well.

I think the level of customisation is about as much as you can reasonably expect to be honest. Should note with any of the laptops with MSATA slots, you're free to go for one of those then get in touch with PCS to have the SATA drive removed from the system. That's what I did anyways.

ofcourse the level of customisation is still great considering we are buying a laptop and not a desktop, and few can offer that. Im just saying it would be truly fantastic if building laptops can approach the same level of modularity as PCs. And when it comes for warranty I dont see the point, since I am changing the HDD anyways. Btw im thinking of ordering this over the weekend for my gf, i will post an overview when i get my hands on it

Never heard of them. Claims it supports Linux though. But can't find any mention of it in the kernel. Have you guys tested this machine (and in particular the touchpad) with Linux?

I've received mine and the touch pad mostly works under Linux. I've tested with Linux Mint 17.1 and everything works except right click with two fingers when clicking down on the pad. If you right click by tapping with two fingers (not pushing the pad down) it works. I might try and fix it but I'm not fussed at the moment since I can right click by tapping.

Could you PLEASE do a review? :D I was thinking of purchasing one for University. Have you done any stress tests or heavy workload?

I've only had it a few hours! I'll post one once I've had a chance to play with it, first impressions though are good, physically it's well built, very light, the screen is clear, doesn't get too hot to the touch just warm, the fans kick up pretty quick but I do have an i7 in here so I expect that throws out a lot of heat.

Ah right ok :) Did you consider the UltraNote II 14" instead of the Lafite?

Nope, didn't even consider it due to the weight and screen resolution. The only other one I considered was the sigma but the Lafite won due to being sligthly smaller and lighter and I didn't really need touch.

Out of interest - if we were to offer a 15.6" Lafite with 840M/850M - same colour and design in May/June time - would anybody consider this? Would it be preferred over the 15.6" Cosmos? What about in grey/black colour?

PCS...why do you have the website on all 3 screens? I am pretty sure there is a law that states that one of the screens should have BBC on and another YouTube...or maybe it is just we can't see the full task bar or browser tabs :D

The website was put on all three screens on purpose. Obviously it's only loaded on one normally and the other screens are used for BBC and YouTube...:p
