Advice on spec and partition

First post and I have only ever purchased ready made PC before - so new to specifying what I want. I need PC for general family use including editing creating videos/editing photos from digital camera, playing music and I may hook up to TV to watch blu ray - kids enjoy games e.g. SIMS, zoo tycoon, Harry Potter - have chosen spec below but I am unsure whether it is too high spec for what I need. Also do I need to partition disc 1 - is their any advantage, and if so should I be partitioning disc 2?

Hi and welcome!

It looks good, but i would be tempted to make the following changes:

1. lose the soundcard, its not needed as the onboard will suffice.
2. Drop the ram to 4gb, your not going to be using 8gb with the use described.
3. swap the 5670 for 1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTS250.

That should be around £100 in your pocket.

Also consider possibly, 1x 1TB WD10EARS with 64mb cache, thus leaving you with room for a 2nd harddrive in teh future, especially as each 1TB WD10EARS is only slightly more than each of the 640GB 16MB cached ones you have in there at present.

Haha, you should just put this in your sig and have done with it.

Forgot to mention, Partitions have no effect on your system, they just let you organise your space into seperate drives.
