AMD Bulldozer CPU comparisons

Just a quick question on the subject of the AMD Bulldozer range of CPU's.

Now, obviously you have the quad core, six-core and eight-core..with the quad having the higher CPU frequency. As the price is pretty cheap for the highest priced (i think), which is the eight core...will i get a better CPU performance from a lower frequency eight cores for gaming and everyday use, maybe video editing, photoshop..etc, compared to a higher frequency quad core?

I would just like to know this as I don't mind paying for the eight cores if they will be in my best interest, which will be high end gaming and general everyday use with the odd high intense CPU usage programs like video editing.

Thanks :)

I think the AMD FX-8150 has a similar price to the i5-3570, for gaming and the programmes you wish to run the i5 would be a better choice than the FX 8150.

gaming is better suited for a quad core cpu, as games cant use more than 4 cores, so for gaming the strongest quad core you can afford,

other cpu intensive tasks would be benefit from more cores,

What kinda games do you plan to play? some games are very cpu intensive total war games for example.

Personally i'd rather go for a intel i7 K processor, then you have a beast of a cpu for cpu intensive games, hyperthreading which makes pretty much 8 cores. the K version, so if ya need to ya can overclock - (providing ya know how to do this though)

Well if I tell you what I'd be using my computer for I'd appreciate if anyone could configure the cheapest possible build for my uses, but I also still want it to be pretty good. Basically it will be used for gaming, I do want it to be able to play games like crysis 2, the new GTA V when it arrives and so on, so on the graphics cards the best value for performance would suit me. As for its other uses i just want it to be quick browsing the internet and streaming videos, with a bit of video editing, photoshop and whatever i take interest in a long those lines of programmes. I did initially want a laptop but I saw sense and realised for the money I could have a more powerful desktop.

You would need to provide a maximum budget, if you are spending less than £900 I'd probably go with an FX-4170 for better value for money and not to compromise on the graphics card.

Well lets say i was going to spend, I think, £1,250 on a laptop, so that kind of budget..make it a maximum of £1,200..just hope that's a good enough budget for a beastly machine :)

That looks pretty beastly to me :D Just a quick question on the graphics card...how will that get on in high end gaming say for example, metro 2033 on ultra settings?

Awesome, thanks ruben :)

Will the GTX 670 future proof me for games in the upcoming year or so? Just looking at other reviews and it seems really solid.

I wouldn't worry, the GTX 670 is one of the best single cards you can get right now and should handle upcoming games.

On the original subject, ive had absolutely no problems with my FX8150 and it doesnt affect my fps on a majority of games, remember most of these comparisons are on the old BIOS version, if you update it, you will get improved performance, it also sounds so much cooler having an 8 core CPU than a 4 core :)

and using the same spec as the rubens i5 suggestion its £69 cheaper, and thats with the motherboard that is pretty much on par with the P8Z77-V

and with the conversation above, oyu might have enough for an SSD

But for gaming the i5-3570 would perform better than the FX-8150.

I'd rather have a strong quad core for gaming, than a weaker 8 core.

it is stronger with the latest BIOS update, and £69 cheaper, there is no difference in gaming, it is the graphics card that does all the work, and id much rather have the bulldozer and a small SSD (or cache SSD) than an i5 and a caviar black
