Best Antivirus.

Can anyone recommend a good all round anti virus which doesn't slow down your PC too much.

I am currently using MCAfee which I get from Sky as part of my package but my PC seems to have slowed down since I installed this.

I like having the anti virus/malware/spyware all in one package if possible.

Thanks for any advice

hi dude, ooohh first reply! Go me

lol there are loads of options some with say go for a free anti-virus as it will provide as good as protection for free......I tried this.......its good but in my opinion is not as effective as an all in one solution, rids the need of having different programs for anti virus, then anti malware etc etc.

So I snapped up norton 2011 something, pretty good, doesn't slow my pc down,. or my dads ageing pentium D or the missus netbook, it was about 20 odd quid at currys which covers 3 pc's. so get ya self down there and it might still be on offer. I too have used Mcafee so understand exactly what ya mean.

I personally use a combination of Microsoft Security Essentials and Comodo firewall, both free :) neither will slow you down at all but comodo needs some getting used to.

Free AV tend's to throw up false positive's. I only use Norton or Kaspersky now. Have'nt used Norton for a couple of year's, But Kaspersky Internet Security provides good all-round protection.

I have been using Bullguard for 3 years now and due to renew in a month so will be sticking with it as it does not slow my PC's down even my old laptop, i had Kaspersky before that but that decided to stop scanning properly on all 3 systems so got shut of that so i won't go back to that and before that i used virgins free PC Guard never again least said the better.

i would recommend Avast along with malwarebytes anti malware, i dont see the point in a firewall from another company seeing as i turn mine off

I have a friend who used to say he didn't see the need for a firewall, soon after, he found out the hard way

Agreed. I assume Wozza is either having a laugh or using a hardware firewall but for any novices out there, please don't try this at home! :):death:

I seeeee - well Linux has one built in so it's not much different than Windows, just a bit neater. :)

I opted for the free 90 days trial of Bullguard, it seems pretty solid so far. However, when it runs out, i'll probably be installing Norton as i've used it for many years, always kept my pc safe :)

I had the 90 day bullguard trial (well 60 day one), it was ok for a couple of weeks, then it pretty much became an annoying adware application. I'd get pop ups when I turned my pc on telling me that it was a trail version that was due to expire, even though I had over half of the trial period left. not only that, I would get random pop ups at the most inconveineint times. it would minimize any window I had open to bring the pop up to the front. I could be playing games, writing letters, talking to someone on messenger and everything inbetween, then the window would just minimize and the pop up would appear.

needless to say, I didn't see out the full trial period. as soon as I got the first pop up, I ordered eset smart security off amazon and had it installed within a few days.

never looked back since

MSE all the way. Malwarebytes if you suspect something dodgy has occured.

You would be pushed to find a router that doesnt have a firewall and then after that windows has one built in so most desktop firewalls are superfluous. A firewall either opens or closes a port, one program can t do this better than another the only difference is how easy it is to customise and how much it gets all up in your face.

As it was and always shall be, its all about user behaviour not AV, prevention better than cure etc etc.

imo the worst anti virus available is McAfee, i used to have it on my old computer and wow it slowed me down and i found after uninstalling it, my computer rarely crashed anymore

just out of curiosity, have you tried MBAM, you'll be surprised what harmless viruses you may not know about that just use system resources

hehe, that goes for anyone who thinks even an all round antivirus is enough, MBAM is a gods gift alongside any antivirus
