extra sales section?

Hey all,

Was just wondering if pcs would be interested to set up a extra sales section on the site, for upgrades and components. Where pcs can sell components to existing customers?

I think something like that has been mentioned and is planned for, though it hasn't happened yet and no ETA for it yet.

thanks for the reply rakk, on the ball I see.

Would be useful as in the future I would like to upgrade components, and would love to offer my money to PCS. As I know firstly I'm not going to get ripped off, and secondly customer service is top notch.

Another reason it would be useful is to see how much these upgrades cost, without having to call up pcs to ask trivial questions.

Something like this is planned, but only for upgrading existing computers purchased from PCS. We're not looking to become an etailer or anything like that.

There's no ETA on this unfortunately - we've got so many new projects on at the moment that take priority over this...

This would be good, as you could log into your account which has all the components of your PC, then through the magic of the interwebs, it could recommend what you could upgrade, and what to upgrade to. If anything was implemented like that, i think it'd be a really good idea :)

thanks for the reply pcs, just would rather give my money to you guys instead off someone else.

one more question though, hopefully not too trivial (sorry if it is). Would the pc still be covered by warranty, if I the PSU was upgraded?

To be honest there's not really any way a web site can do that realistically for you, depends on too many things - PC usage being a biggie and that's not something that easily dealt with automatically :)

See, if PCS were like, say, a fruit-based-computer-company, there would be a "Recommended" upgrade against each part...it would just always be the most expensive option they had available :D

I disagree actually, a well designed IKDB (Intelligent Knowledge DataBase) would be more than capable of doing this. Yes its not straight forward website programming, however any number of languages can be used to do it such as LISP, which I believe is used to implement the IKDB that Amazon use.

If and when we do it we'll be able to offer upgrades like this, as we'll know what socket CPU you have for example, or the max memory a motherboard can take. It will all be possible and easy for the customer :)

Will I void my warranty if I open the case and install my own components?

Unlike with most computer manufacturers, we allow you to open the case and install your own components. Providing you install these correctly, and you do not damage your computer during or as a result of installing your own components, your warranty will still be valid. We do not provide any method of support for these components, both during installation or in use, and any warranty returns that are caused by your own components will be chargeable for both labour and return costs. If you have to return your computer to us for any reason we strongly recommend the prior removal of these components, as we cannot be held responsible for them.

Job? Its not a person tom...its just the essence of PCS talking to us via the medium of a message board, or forum if you will :)
