Fedex Delivery troubles?

I'm from Ireland, and PC Specialist are using Fedex for international deliveries, but has anyone else experiences some massive trouble with them? My PC has been stuck in customs hell for near two weeks now and is apparently undeliverable, and after days of trying I finally got someone from customer service to say it's probably because I didn't supply an EORI number (never mind that I assumed once I had done everything through PC Specialist all I would need to do is sign at the door). Except when I looked up how to get an EORI number it apparently having to be an actual registered company?

I'm not really expected to register as a company just to receive a shipment am I? Posting here out of sheer desperation, just to see if anyone else is experiencing anything similar or knows what to do.

Have you bought a PC as a private person or a business customer? (Ltd/sole trader). Have you entered your VAT number asking for VAT exemption or made any requests regarding VAT?

Have you contacted PCS by email/web chat/phone on the above to ask them clarification?

Bought it as a private person, or least I'm pretty sure that's what I did. I made an enquiry regarding EORI through myRevenue as specified there, though not a lot of detail was given on the process to do it so I'm unsure if I did it correctly.

As far as I know I do not have a VAT number, as I am not an actual business

I hope you've only done just a simple enquiry on myRevenue without filling out or submitting any forms...

Please contact PCS by email [email protected] with your account number and contact details and short but clear question why your delivery is on hold in Customs with details from your first post. You could also say that you have intended to purchase as a private customer with Irish VAT included but for some reason a delivery company Fedex is now telling you about some EORI number missing in the order/delivery paperwork you've never heard about. Ask for further advice and how thing could be speed up to get your order delivered to your home and they will respond to you within a few working days ;)

If you don't mind, could you please give me your order amount excl. and incl. VAT from your PCS online account orders page and is it in Euro or Sterling? And another important thing - what's your order date and have you made any amendment in your order?

Did you buy through the website pcspecialist.co.uk or pcspecialist.ie? What was the VAT you paid for your transaction? Is the amount % due in Ireland or UK?

Yeah, just a simple enquiry, didn't fill out any forms or anything. Yeah, trying to call PC Specialist not but been on hold for an hour and a half so might as well send an email as well.

Through the .ie site. I think what might be adding to the issue is I paid for it mid December before the UK implemented the customs, but it only shipped afterwards, so maybe something went wrong there.

Aha! This is the issue. You have to stress that in the very beginning of your email to the PCS as it's the main thing! ;)

PCS will amended your paperwork for customs and customs will clear that for go ahead to the ROI. I'm not recommending to call about this as they may not be able to resolve this over the phone while by email they'll have extra time to think how to deal with that. Honestly, it's really normal that it happened because no one new how trading rules will work from the 1st of Jan 2021 as the Brexit deal has been signed just before Christmas and not sure if it's approved yet. We all see that changes are in place and sellers are adopting to them.

I believe PCS is doing everything (and more!) they can to adopt to these changes. I think, keeping in mind the whole Pandora box of stock issues, large demand, Covid rules, Brexit on top of that, PCS are brilliant and keeping at the good work.

Hopefully it will get sorted for you quickly. Please update next week how it went ;)

Think that may be best, as after a 2 hour wait and becoming number 1 in the queue the line just went silent without me getting to talk to anyone. I think I may just sit down and stare blankly into the middle distance for a while.

Some phone operators cut a call after 90 minutes, some after 2hrs automatically - to prevent from accidental calls. A few years back I've worked in a call centre and know myself that lines get cut off even during a conversation due to network issues (phone lines in ROI and the UK are much less reliable than in Europe mainland) and it may be very frustrating.

Just want to double check one more thing - have you paid in Euro? Could you see if your order amount excluding VAT is 20% or 21% less than including VAT? You have probably paid the UK VAT while after the 1st Jan all orders must be paid the EU VAT, not UK, when purchasing in the UK but order is being shipped to the EU. I think you really should mention that in your email to the PCS too. You may end up them asking you to pay additional 1% of VAT (Irish VAT is greater then the UK) or they'll find some other solution - I don't currently want to speculate too much as I don't have experience on this.

Paid 21% VAT in Euro, at least according to my invoice. I'd be willing to pay the extra 1% if it would actually get delivered, so that wouldn't bother me.

If you paid 21%, then it's a very interesting case... Ok, no worries, everything can easily be fixed. Just drop them as short and clear email as possible asking advise you further. I basically nearly suggested you all what's most important to write them ;) And update us on this please as I'm very curious when things are related to taxation. And the problem resolution is the best part 😊

Actually, after a glass of wine I've got another idea and looked up my own quote from November. And yes, PCS is registered for Irish VAT with Revenue and were registered before 2021. Of course they have to be registered as PC prices are thousands and they reach a threshold so they have to register. I know some other competitor weren't registered and now they ended up having much bigger issues shipping to Europe.

All this means I should stop scaring with my stories regarding taxation as I ended up sounding it to be overcomplicated.

The above seems to be a much smaller issue than I thought it could be and it's possibly easily fixable by simply amending your order paperwork, nothing else, as I originally suspected, but digged myself a bit too deep :)

That would be ideal, if all it required was some change in paper work

Did you send an email? It is honestly the best way to get things sorted right now.

Just finished a call with PCS there and the issue seems to just be a time thing? Fedex seem to be unprepared to deal with customs post Brexit, so apparently it's just taking them ages to get through the invoices. I was told that if Fedex haven't contacted me by Wednesday to contact them again and they'll see if they can do anything on their end. They guy gave me his own PCS email to contact him quicker if it isn't sorted by then as well, so fingers crossed.

So the ideal situation is I'll know what the story is sometime next week, and that the Fedex customer service person who said I might need an EORI number just got it wrong. Having to register myself as a business just to receive a package sounds wrong anyway.

Right on the face of it that's good news then. Fingers crossed you get some movement pretty soon. Keep us updated.

Thank you so much for the update! Sounds great, even though it's not completely sorted, you at least know what's going on ;) I knew PCS are good at this. It's pity FedEx isn't fully prepared, but I guess it's easy to judge without knowing their business complexity...
Would be great to know when you actually receive a PC - just drop us the news here :)

So someone at Fedex who actually knew what was going on finally got back to me, and I'm afraid it does seem to be more than just a time thing. Looks like I do need an EORI number for any imports above a certain price threshold, which my PC is. Though apparently I made a mistake and don't actually need to be a business to have one. Still, this means another few weeks of waiting, at least to get this all sorted, so that's quite depressing.
