First major desktop purchase - everything look ok?

Anyone see any major issues?

I have been mulling over this for a few days now. Ready to commit.

I will be using it primarily as a music workstation. I believe the weakest link in all of this to be the GPU. But I'm not too bothered, I won't be trying to do any intense gaming. Aslong as I can get 1440p on multiple monitors and play some games with lower settings.

I'm pretty much maxed on budget here, so if I upgrade something I'd need to cut something else.
Budget £2000-£2200

Thanks in advanced for your time

Howdy, it'd be really helpful if you include your budget (appreciate you're saying you're at your max budget... but no one yet knows what that is :) ), and the configurable link to this spec (its at the bottom of the page you copied the spec from)

Is that going to be an issue? Whenever I selected something higher they kept saying "you don't need it. You only need around 220w"
Something to that effect anyway.
This is what I see, whenever I even go to the next one up.

Unless you mean light quality/price wise?

What would you recommend?

What likely future requirements do you foresee?
I may eventually upgrade my GPU but I don't intend on any intense PC gaming.

Thanks
My asbsolute bare minimum on any machine is 650W but with the latest Intel chips and the newer GPU's being sooo power hungry I've upped that significantly

Now I don't spec less than 850W if the budget can allow

For what you're talking about describing above, I'd personally want 750W if on a really strict budget. I also just wouldn't go with a CV model they aren't great quality, the Txm's would be my minimum in terms of quality but the RMx are worth every penny

Good to know! I wonder why this is.

Good to know! I wonder why this is.
Generally when I spec a computer I aim for minimum 5-7 years life span. Generally I get 10, one of the reasons for this is overspeccing on the PSU.

Having a lot of overhead will let the PSU run a lot more efficiently, quieter and cooler. You wouldn't want your car engine running in the red constant so you wouldn't want your PSU doing that either right?

Also having a lot of overhead will allow plenty of room to add components without having to worry about having enough juice. It'll let you allow for any power creeps or jumps like we've seen from the past generation of GPU's.

For example two years ago I would have said 750W is all you'll ever need in a PSU but not we have GPU's like the 3080 having a recommended minimum of 850W? There's an upward trend happening right now that's good to plan for

It's also much cheaper to buy one PSU now and have it last the entire lifespan of a machine than to pay for 2 or 3 PSU and changing them out. Changing them out is also a fairly major job and takes hours of time

Noted, very insightful. I will absolutely go for the 750w RMx now as a minimum.

Any other potential issues you see? So glad to have people looking over this with experience 😅. I'd have had no reason to suspect the PSU would be an issue.

How does my GPU look in general? It's very hard to gauge. It definitely doesn't look mind blowing, but is it bottom tier? Should I worry?

Thanks again for anyone who replies.

The GPU is a very entry level workstation GPU, you'll honestly be playing pretty much zero games on that thing it's just not designed for them

Let me put something together for comparison

I'm not sure how absolutely sure you are you need 128GB of RAM? That seems excessive even by excessive standards but I'll assume you know what your talking about?

RAM is either used or it isn't, having more wont improve performance it'll just sit idle so unless you're absolutely using 128GB all the time this is really not how I'd like to spend the money for this build. We can buff it and balance it out in other areas and also get faster timings on the RAM if we go for less. Then again it depends entirely on how much is required for your needs

Taken a lot of what you said into serious consideration, and done some more research on things.

Pushed the budget slightly too, how does this look?

(I work with massive digital orchestral scores, where all of the instruments get loaded into ram. So that's why I'm keen on maxing that out).

Looks nice! I got the TD500 Mesh myself before Christmas and was very pleasantly surprised, great case and v. good cooling with the nice mesh front. I also went for the 1000W RMx and was very happy with it, and I upgraded to a Firecuda 530 boot drive like yourself which has worked out really nicely

Only thing that caught my eye a bit was the 3000MHz RAM. What was recommended to me and what seems to be recommended mostly here if I remember is the 3200MHz? I see on the website that there doesn't seem to be an option for 3200MHz of the 128GB RAM you're looking for, I wonder if it's better or not to go for 64GB of the faster 3200MHz? Not really sure myself, would be curious to know. I remember reading before that there wasn't a huge difference between the 3600MHz and 3200MHz, so I wonder is it a similar thing between 3200MHz and 3000MHz where there's not much difference

I don't have any experience with orchestral scores and the RAM it uses tho, I guess if you really needed all of the 128GB RAM and 64GB doesn't cut it you'd have to go for the 3000MHz one

This is certainly something I'll consider more. Quite honestly I just saw an option for max and took it. The speed didn't seem too bad so I just assumed all was well. But I suppose it may not be the worst to go for 64gb faster ram then try and upgrade with same type. Just gotta see if there is a 32x2 option. 16x4 with intend to upgrade is obviously wasted.

If there isn't a 2*32 option and you can buy that option elsewhere, then just get the pic with a single sick of 4 GB
You know what, this is definitely what ill do. Thanks!
Can get 128gb DDR4 3600MHz for around £500.
(The same cost difference as the 128gb DDR4 3000MHz in my current build).

I suppose some questions,
It is entirely fine to buy 2 x (2x32gb) packs instead of 1 x (4x32) pack?
The latter seems to be more expensive.

I'm aware there used to be major requirements to have RAM paired.
But I assume buying 2 of the same pair will work just fine? Instead of a 4 pack?

Thanks

For clarity I am looking at the

Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 64GB (2 x 32GB) 3600MHz Kit - PVS464G360C8K
or

Patriot Viper 4 Blackout Series DDR4 64GB (2 x 32GB) 3600MHz Kit -
