Ok thanks for the heads up my spec is above
Max spend is £2700
I have the AOC CU34G2X/BK 34" coming tomorrow

My main concern is the cooling for the cpu is it going to be good enough and not going to fry the chip,
I have just bought the ps5 and tbh I’m going to sell it to put back the funds towards this build


My reason for the processor and large ram is I enjoy astrophotography and use a powerful piece of software called pixINsight and is extremely demanding

and that’s about it really if someone can advise on the cooling or anything else you spot in the specs that would be great

I've never heard of pixINsight but anything that recommends a Threadripper is intimidating.

It also recommends the Ryzen 9 3900X so the Ryzen 9 3950X should do the job for you, I'd expect it to be running really high temperatures so I'd say the Corsair H115i is a must for the build as well to keep the CPU cool

I'd also want a bit more power in the PSU and go for a better case with airflow in mind. Thermals sound like they will be an issue running that program so keeping everything cool should be the priority.

You can also remove Bullguard it just causes problems and Windows Defender is better and free. It comes with Windows 10

Send through the configuration link and guys here can make a few tweaks that can optimise the whole build and better balance it, they are great at ironing out finer details that are easy to miss to give a more complete build

Looked into pixinsight you were not joking thats some exstremely demanding software ( looks awesome btw may look into it myself ) I know @ubuysa has a intrest in astro photography and may know of that program looks very intresting tho !!! Has some pritty nice photos in this thread

Blood moon photos anyone?

These were taken with a Canon Powershot G7X MkII at 1275m up in the wild mountains of Crete. My friend has a mountain hose up there. Zero light pollution.... I'm sure the real enthusiasts on here have better quality images but I was quite pleased with these....

Yeah it’s Linux based software more powerful than photoshop as it’s purely designed for astronomy it will use every last bit of memory possible lol but yes it’s a great hobby not cheap but very rewarding

This gets you back under budget. The 3070 is going to be ample for gaming with the AOC monitor you've got coming. In fact @AgentCooper also rocks the 3070 with that same model and he swears by it (100-120fps on RDR2 at high graphics settings). Upgraded motherboard to the STRIX as the R9 chips need the improved chipset cooling and VRMs, and that lands you back in budget.

Well everyone I just spotted a major problem with my build but I have selected 4x 16gb now when I just checked the amd 3950x only supports 2 slots of ram so had to change from 4 x 16 3200mhz. Instead to 2 x 32gb 3000mhz

I'd recommend staying with a 3200 minimum config. 3000 is too slow for ryzen really, they perform incredibly with faster ram.

It will run with 4 sticks...but there seems to be issues with AMD (I'm not sure they ever figured out what it was).
Even with that, 2 sticks nearly always works better than 4, but I wouldnt want to drop the speed on it... is it possible to order your RAM elsewhere and just take the minimum 4Gb stick (they cant do it without as they have to test etc, and dont do "partial" machines as it were)

Corsair vengence LPX RAM is widely available, shouldnt be too difficult to get 2 x 32Gb 3600MHz CL18 RAM

Ok but the max I think is 3200mhz
