Input not supported

Hello Joannec. You mentioned that you see the error "input not supported" on your monitor. That may suggest that the screen resolution was set to a high resolution not supported by the monitor. Do you know if anyone attempted changed the screen resolution?

You can try booting the PC in safe mode, which will use a low screen resolution, and the monitor should then work, and allow you to change the screen resolution permanently to one supported by the monitor.
More than happy to give this a go, but how do I boot it in safe mode if I can’t see what I’m doing on the monitor?

That is a good point ;)

When the computer first starts up, it'll go through it usual internal start up tests and give a single beep once complete. After that point it will start to load Windows. During these initial phases, you do see anything at all on the screen - for example a PCSpecialist logo?

We get the Acer logo, then in the top corner it goes through the different inputs available (we’ve got it set to auto select), and then the screen goes grey and we get the ‘input not supported’ message 😩.

Nope, absolutely nothing 🙄
Hi Joannec

Just to clarify, if you totally power off the computer, connect the monitor, and then power on the PC, absolutely nothing is seen on the monitor at all during the whole booting up process?

That’s right. All I get is the Acer logo and then the error message. I’ve connected my MacBook to the monitor now to try and change the resolution settings. What should I set it to and might this help? It’s currently set to 1080p.

If only it could be that simple.

Unfortunately it is the resolution settings on the PC that we need to change, so we need to be on the PC itself to change the settings. Let me check what we can try, and I will get back to you in a few minutes.

I've just been reading the online manual for your monitor. In the monitor functions go to the System component and set DDC/CI to off. This allows monitor controls to be set by the PC, perhaps disabling it might help?

Also set auto source off and select the HDMI input manually.

Does your monitor have DP input? I believe the graphics card does.

Yes, the graphics card does but unfortunately the monitor doesn’t. I’ll try the other suggestions you mentioned and get right back to you. Many thanks

I was going to suggest popping out the graphics card temporarily, and connecting the monitor to the built-in graphics port. But I see that the system is an AMD 3600X, which doesn't support built-in graphics. Stymied again.

Hi Joannec. You previously mentioned that you attempted to connect the PC to two TVs, and both also failed to display. I take it that the PC was connected to those TVs via the HDMI cable. Were the TVs set to use the correct source in order to display from the PC?

As an aside, have you tried a different HDMI cable, just to rule that out as the source of the issues?

Thanks though, appreciate your input. I’m still waiting to hear back from pc specialist as I’m getting a bit fed up with this now 🙄

I’ve tried three different HDMI cables so far 😩. Im going to try it with a TV again in case my son maybe did something wrong.

It may seem dispiriting, but it all helps narrow down the cause.

We know the monitor itself is fine as it works with your Mac. Probably not the HDMI cables either, as it is highly unlikely that all three HDMI cables are faulty (and besides, at least one works when connecting your Mac to the monitor).

So we know the issue is with either the PC or its graphics card. Hopefully the tests with the TVs may give us a bit more info.
