Intel SSD prices: 2x120gb raid costs the same as 1x250gb!

The Vortex SSDs are coming out soon, but let's just forget about them and stick with the stable Intel 510s.

120gb costs £212
-> 240gb Raid 0 costs £433
250gb costs £433

So two drives in Raid with 10gb less costs just the same. This is with that 17" model laptop.

I would say that most people would then choose the raid option because of the performance boost. I can live without a bigass secondary disk drive. Who would choose different?

Another question is can anyone find the exact performance difference of 250gb vs 240gb raid?

if it were me i'd want my data on disk, doesn't matter if your ssd fails (or you just want to re-install OS) then as you only lose the OS. up and running in no time, if you're on a raid it'll mean a restore of your files as well.

i would choose different because of the risks involved in raid setups weighed against the fact that SSDs are already darn quick

I had Raid 0 on my last system the boost it provides in very small so will not do that again and as nemesis said above SSD's are quick.
