I’m going to buy the 240hz Alienware 25 AW2521HF monitor
I would strongly recommend against that monitor. You've been watching too much YouTube, there is absolutely zero benefit to 240hz at 1080p but especially for fortnite, it's a very basic graphics game.

99% of people can't appreciate anything over 120hz anyway, but rhw improvement from 1080p to 1440p is significant, far greater than any change from 144hz to 240hz.

Your budget would allow for a 1440p system.

Yes I know but if I was to buy a 1440p monitor I would be sacrificing a lot of frames. At least if I stick to 1080p I am guaranteed 240fps on low and medium settings for the majority of games. If I get 1440p I’ll have to stick to low settings to get 240fps on most games. But I don’t want to waste money getting a 1080p monitor if I can still play at 240fps on 1440p. How much FPS do you think I will get on a 1440p monitor with these specs

Bit what benefit are those frames? Have you ever experienced high refresh? It's 99% certain that you won't be able to see any difference over 120fps as already said.

Fortnite as well isn't a high refresh game in anyway.

Can you play 1080p on a 1440p monitor and if so is it the exact same as playing on 1080p monitor

Why would you want to play 1080p on a 1440p monitor?? Just play at 1440p?

It's almost twice as many pixels, everything is so much clearer and easier to make out. It's a massive difference

You can. The way this works is that there are a certain number of pixels on your screen denoted by the resolution (1920x1080) and 2560x1440 for 1440p.

Playing at 1080p on a 1080p native means each pixel is doing one thing.
Playing at 1440p is the same

To play 1080p on a 1440p monitor, multiple pixels are giving the same output. What this does it is makes everything more blurry than if it were played at a native resolution (on a 1080p monitor).

It is always best where possible to play at the intended resolution of the monitor, but you can change this if you really have to, although it would be odd to do this.

Unless you are a very very competitive fortnight player with very serious aspirations to go professional and given your budget I can see absolutely no downsides to playing at 1440p and on the positives you will have a noticeably sharper and better looking screen for absolutely everything you might do on your computer.

Because I might not get the 240fps I want on 1440p at least then I can just switch
But again, what benefit will 240hz give you? What are you basing that on? My guess is YouTube videos, it's lies pushed by people getting paid millions to make sales, they don't care about giving you accurate information.

Have you ever played over 60hz? Are you coming from console?

So basically your saying I’ll still maintain a high frame rate on 1440p and then playing 1880p on a 1440p will make it blurry because I’m better of just using 1440p and lowering my graphics to get the higher frames I want

I'd suggest you'd be better with 120-150fps on 1440p than 240fps on 1080p. Chasing frame rates has a cool factor, but has very little impact beyond that. In an FPS, maybe it's vaguely worthwhile, but I'm still sceptical.

Normal human eyes can't tell the the difference above about 120fps

I was playing on 120fps on the ps5 so for my first pc I want a significant improvement. So your basically saying that 1440p on 144hz is better than 1880p on 240hz
