Looking at a new PC, but unsure what to get..

Would you say its worth going for an overclocked system with this CPU, would it be more future proof
No. They're vastly more expensive due partly to their own cost and also due to the much higher price of the HEDT motherboards they are sold with. As far as I know they aren't any faster than the i7 7700k clock for clock. You'd be paying what, £150? more for 200MHz.

Just realised not actually coming out Monday but being announced Monday! :stupid:

Would you wait for Coffee Lake or just buy something now?

do you need the PC now? thread is almost 8 months old. I guess it is something not essential and you could wait but there are always new things coming up and whether you wish to wait or not really depends on when you need the pc.

I'm pretty sure I suggested waiting for coffee lake 8 months ago as I could see this thread going this way :stuart:

I can probably wait a month or two I think, when do you reckon Coffee Lake will be released? If its January next year than that's quite a long time I would have to wait and probably couldn't wait that long.

Is coffee lake not the green CPU range? It's been a long time since I looked into it but last I read there wasn't any performance options?

These are benchmarks based on sysmark apparently, so the crowd should wait for real info before going wild.

And some pricing:

Cheers for this Oussebon :)

If the benchmarks above do turn out to be true, would you say there will be a significant performance increase over the 7700K which is probably worth waiting for?

Coffee Lake desktop CPUs are out in October it seems.
https://videocardz.com/newz/upcoming-asus-z370-motherboards

Will be interesting to see how the i7s match up against the R7s for multithreaded given a bit higher frequencies and IPC. I think the 1800x at least may feel the pressure.

I expect we might finally see a 6 core CPU unseat the quad cores for gaming performance.

I would, especially for your specific uses (including FM).

Looks good. Personally I'd go for the £5 warranty upgrade.

If you don't need wifi (can't remember if you did or didn't) the Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Ultra Gaming would be cheaper but still have a very solid feature set.

You could go with the CoolerMaster MasterLiquid 240 Liquid Cooler to save some £. It's pretty decent from what I've seen in reviews.

Cheers Oussebon :) - I did need Wi-Fi so have gone with the Asus Z370-E :)

Would you say its worth going for a modular power supply or stick with the 650w semi modular?
