I would have thought the 3800x is a slightly overclocked, but way overpriced 3700x. Your thoughts?

It kind of is, but there's such a small price difference between the 2 now that the 3800X is a no brainer.

Basically the 3800X is a better binned, more efficient version of the 3700X. When they bump the price way up it isn't worth it, but right now there's not a lot in it. 3800X is the way to go IMO.

I really wonder how 3800X would perform as I was thinking about the same, I cannot wait to see tests and how much TDP is 3800X going to use, and what temps it will deliver, also nova got a ''refresh'' rtx 2070 is that correct?

I don't think there is a refresh 2070, NVIDIA released the 2070 super. and the nova does not have the 2070 super just the good old 2070.

Based on silicon lottery, they test better chips that can handle a stable overclock and essentially push it out of the box. But it's essentially the same processor as the 3700x.
ah. that's like the opposite of what the RTX 2060 KO was, yeah?

Where did you hear this? Are you sure you're not talking about the Super series or the desktop cards?

There haven't been any refreshes to laptop cards other than the upcoming Super series that I know of?

it is very slight boost i assume, here is quote and link: https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-2070-Laptop-Graphics-Card.384936.0.html

"In April 2020 Nvidia refreshed the RTX 2070 with new "Super" cards. In addition to the RTX 2070 Super Mobile with 2560 shaders, Nvidia also introduced a slightly higher clocked RTX 2070 for laptops (N18E-G1R-A1, TU106-735-A1 chip) with a 1,305 base and 1,485 MHz boost clock. "

Thanks for that, wasn't aware of it, not sure it's going to give any noticeable improvement, but good to know.

yes i think the same not much improvement, might be a marketing strategy, it might increase 2 or 3 fps more but nothing major, at least its good to know all new laptops should have a refreshed version

RTX 2070 Mobile 2019: Base Clock - 1215 MHz
Boost Clock - 1440 MHz

RTX 2070 Mobile 2020: Base Clock - 1,305 Mhz
Boost Clock - 1,485 Mhz

Notice that the CPUs have been drastically reduced?

No 3900X or 3950X there any more and the 3800X has been dropped too. Looks more in line with competitors now.

it might even have to do with thermals. a 3950x would be nerfed pretty bad compared to the desktop even in something as thicc as the nova.
maybe they don't want to stock the others altogether?

its because the octane series is blown out of the water with a 200 mega ton eplosive with the full option, and it only suffers a 100 mega ton knockout with the reduced range.

silly language aside its most likely because they want to get rid of octane stock i guess
