I've gone back to it many times over the years, and I'd agree...it's a pile of stinking, graphical & gameplay reindeer poop.
In fact, I think it's only 1 of probably 2 games I've actually permanently deleted off my gaming PC.

Steam winter sale is now live. I will not be buying anything (he says!), but I will be voting in the Steam Awards 2022 as there's usually a badge in it for people who get involved, and that's an easy way to level up my Steam level!
Purely for the shiggles, I had a look and over 300 of my wishlist games are currently on sale. Wasn't going to wait for the emails to confirm it!
So, funny story. Ended up buying Days Gone for 13 quid. Will give me something to do on Sunday when I wake up ridiculously early and the family are all still in bed!

Developers have abandoned it with a lot of bugs still there. They're now focussing on F1 Manager 2023. Motorsport Manager for Ā£3 is probably a better bet!

Yeah, the console versions all seem pretty solid, but it seems like the PC port needed a bit more love but didn't get it before F1 Manager 2023 became the focus. Sadly, with Frontier as a dev, I suspect F1M 2023 will be much the same.Cheers - swayed my decision now
I've not heard of it either, but Mostly Positive reviews (currently overall 79% when 80+% is Very Positive shows it's on the better end of Mostly Positive scores) suggest it could be worth a play. There's a lot of reviews saying it's a decent alternative to the likes of Wasteland 3 and XCOM.

My first new PC game (bought with HZD) to break in the new PCSpecialist PC last year.
It got some undeservedly bad reviews tbh but for me it was more up there with Dying Light, RE 2 and 7 than, say, Dead Island. A bit slow to start and get into maybe but it opens up well after. Runs well too, as to be expected of ex Sony exclusive ports. Just... don't get too complacent around the hordes (as fun as stalking, trolling, hunting them is)

Yeah I got 8 or 9 hours into Horizon: Zero Dawn when I decided to put the game aside and wait until Forbidden West gets a PC release in I suspect will be 2024. I was just getting to the part where the game was definitely starting to open out and felt it was a good point to stop in that I can re-learn the controls in the beginning area when I pick it up, rather than being in an instadeath situation later on when it had been a while since I played!
HZD's PC port was a little temperamental on release, but was quickly patched and like you say fits in with the rest of the Sony ports now.
I wouldn't say HZD was necessarily longer than Days Gone, and I loved it as much tbh but...
Days Gone was gone, done in a month with 120 hours. HZD got started August 2021, and still playing with some 80 odd hours in. It's grown into more of a slow burner/drip feed since, like GTA5 did. Not cos it's worse, more that it's maybe more overwhelming (not in a bad way) but so much to do and see and what there is, is striking. It's like once it's done I know I'll be wanting more of that goodness, so Forbidden West will be on my radar, but I'll need a break playing through something(s) else in between for sure.
That's nothing new for me btw. GTA5 story I finished 3 months ago after starting in 2016 and losing track, restarting in 2019. Dying Light I originally had on the PS4 I had for mere weeks. Had to start that again on PC 4 years ago, and still haven't finished The Following, 100 hours in, maybe a handful left but it got left so long. Ditto Rise and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, 30-40 hours in each, not far to go but got left for 2 years... All great games, mind, nothing wrong with them. On the other hand, the first two Metro games and RE 2 and 7, for example, were done in one run over a long weekend or so. Easy.
It's simply burnout for the longer games. Also, irl stuff, including variable illness, can stymie playing for weeks on end and it can be hard getting that flow back, especially games with a story or sustained narrative of some kind. Used to happen with Total War games as well, I'd get a campaign into the mid-late stage with lots going on and the next move dependent on a strong grasp of the ins and outs of everything... be gone for a couple of weeks and it would take hours back in game just to work out wtf was going on last time and what my plan for it was/should be. Some games just need a good consistent run up and in to it or you lose that keen edge you built up for it (and yes, what were the controls again? oh no, dead!)

Yeah ! Days Gone is one of those long games. It can get a bit repetitive at the beginning. It has a sustained narrative all the way through. If you leave it for a while, weeks or longer, then you go back to grinding missions, and you're thinking, "WTH is this all about"?

The whole story behind this is just wild. Epic were originally offering the Director's Cut of Death Stranding which features a lot of improvements over the original. Someone then intervened (potentially someone from Kojima Productions) and Epic switched to offering the original edition. But the original edition hasn't been available for purchase since the Director's Cut was released, so it was causing a lot of crashes in the Epic store, as an item was both available and unavailable at the same time!
I have about 114 hours in the original version and plan to go back into the DC version at some point. It's a weird game (as are most Kojima games to be fair!), but definitely oddly satisfying.
