So I booted up the rig posted in the first post (my six-year-old first ever PCS purchase) today before it joined the Boozad PC graveyard. It took a good couple of minutes before it was in a state to use and was as noisy as an aeroplane, I can't actually believe I was still using this rig just four months ago, I can really see how old it is compared to my new rigs. I did start booting from my old copy of Windows 7 32 bit to format the main hard drive but it was taking so long to actually do anything I just decided to remove the hard drives before disposing of it. I took a sledge hammer to the HDDs and I couldn't believe how well built they were, it took plenty of blows to do enough damage for me to be satisfied that they were beyond use before lobbing them in the bin.
I then placed the rig outside on the front wall, and it was gone within twenty minutes, God knows who took it. But before it went on its merry way to wherever it's gone I took a couple of photos of the innards, just something nostalgic for me to remember it by. I'll miss you neon bubble cased Athlon, you served me well.

My first desktop, bought and built by my mum
CPU: AMD Sempron 2600+
RAM: 2x256MB DDR-333
Mobo: *shrug*
GPU: Some ancient ATi card, then Nvidia 6800GT
Case: some crappy ATX tower with a spider on the front
OS: XP Pro
Cooler: Crappy Stock Cooler™

The first PC I bought and built myself, circa 2008:
CPU: Intel E8400 @ 3GHz, OC'd to 4GHz
RAM: 1x2GB DDR2-800, added another 2GB later
Mobo: XFX 780i
GPU: XFX GTX 260 XXX-edition
PSU: Corsair TX750 (used in my current built, and probably my next as well)
Case: the same case as previous
OS: XP Pro then onto 7 as soon as the Beta was out
Cooler: Scythe Ninja II
This machine is now my mum's

My current desktop, built myself:
CPU: Intel 2500K, OC'd to 4GHz
RAM: 2x4GB DDR3-1600
Mobo: Asus P8P67 Deluxe
GPU:GTX 560Ti
PSU: taken from previous build
Case: CoolerMaster HAF932
OS: Windows 7 64-bit, miiight move to Win8 if 8.1 is good
Cooler: Scythe Mugen III

You upgraded quickly or was that always intended for the kids PC?

I upgraded quickly. I bought that AMD rig without doing any research into parts, I'd fallen out of the loop when it came to hardware and just bought a rig that I knew was better than my old one. To be honest if I hadn't started gaming on it I wouldn't have upgraded but once I did I knew I had to have a top end rig. Plus it helped that the old one I gave the kids was just dying a death so better they have the AMD one and me have a much better one if I was going to buy another PC within three months.
