I am looking to buy a desktop PC, mostly for doing Blender animations. Also some gaming. So needs to be fairly beefy. Monitor is a 32 inch Samsung. Trying to get it close to £1k inc VAT. Suggestions would be very welcome.

Blender isn't my forte but I'd be happy to give some more general suggestions! Would you be able to provide the full spec along with link at the bottom (how to do this can be found here). Also with the PC market these days, 1K is quite a tight budget. Do you have a windows PC or laptop that you won't use after this arrives? If so you can copy over the windows key and (in what is a fairly simple process) it would save a big chunk of the bugdet (about £80 from memory)

Another thing to add, do you know what the resolution and refresh rate of your Samsung monitor is? If not do you know the model name/ number?

Thank you! 1K ex VAT is definetly easier to work with, I've effectively given the system a bit of a balance here, having a quick google it looks like it meets the recommended settings for Blender. If you should spend more in X and less in Y then we'll have to wait for a more skilled pair of eyes.

As much as I love the Spectrum RGB, I've heard it's fans can be a little loud for some users liking so I've switched to the Corsair 220T. The difference between the 3600 and the 3600X is pretty minimal and making that switch saves a few £. You had quite a basic older generation motherboard so I've swapped that for a newer, higher end motherboard. AMD loves fast RAM so I've swapped for a 3200mhz kit. I've changed the SATA SSD you had to a M.2 NVMe SSD which is around 4x faster for £15 less, the PCS SSD's are great value for money and very popular. To allow for future upgrades I've upped the PSU to a 750W TXm unit that's gold rated so will run more efficently too. The stock cooler will be perfectly fine for the R5 3600, if you were to get an upgraded one, I'd suggest the Cooler Master 240mm AIO. If you need WiFi the AX200 is a must, if you use ethernet then it can be removed (and the budget spent elsewhere). The Silver warranty is a no brainer for £5 and I've removed the Anti-virus as it's known to cause issues and Windows Defender will do a perfectly fine job anyway!

Thanks.

So will the M2 function as the primary drive (where Windows is stored)? Are there any disadvantages of the M2 over the bigger SSDs (e.g. reliability)?

What are the advantages of the uprated motherboard?

The configurator seems to think 450W is sufficient. Is uprating to 750W helpful?

Yup! The M.2 will be the Speedy drive where Windows and maybe a couple of games or active projects are stored and there aren't any drawbacks as far as I'm aware
What are the advantages of the uprated motherboard?
It's a newer generation of motherboard so will likely see support for longer but the main reason for upgrading is the VRM's (voltage regulator module). It effectively means that the motherboard can handle more powerful CPU's so if you were to decide to upgrade over time, the CPU you were to upgrade to would more likely be happy in the uprated motherboard.
The configurator seems to think 450W is sufficient. Is uprating to 750W helpful?
The configurator only goes upon what is needed to run the system so we tend to always up it by a few hundred watts. An analogy I like to think of is that it's similar to a car engine, with the revs being the wattage used and the redline being the maximum wattage. If your revs are always close to the redline, it's bad for the engine and will shorten the life expectency of the engine, or worse, could break it. Where as if revs are low and redline is high then it's much happier. It's the same with the wattage of PSU's really. Plus having a higher wattage PSU allows for more powerful upgrades later on. Yes the 450W PSU will power the system, but it'll be an unhappy unit, won't last as long and will need to be replaced if you wish to do upgrades later on.

Just to manage expectations. With the software application and gaming in mind, I don't think this level of system would be called "beefy". It's without doubt as good as you can get with the budget involved but I just don't want you expecting a performance monster. You would be looking at a significantly higher budget to achieve that level of ouput.

The system that you have ordered is very well balanced and will handle the software's without any problem. Like I said, just managing expectations :)
