This is a fairly common type of thread on other forums, and seeing as there isn't an active equivalent here I thought I'd start one :D

Today, I signed up for my final university year's modules (pictured below). I also moved a bunch of junk from my parents' house to my uni place - none of the junk is actually mine, I've just been storing it for my housemate while he's off getting married across the pond. And I picked up the key for the aforementioned place.

Trying to get a house, just waiting for the mortgage to be approved. Got my timetable (from work) last week. A bit stressing waiting for the survey/valuation to get back to us.
Effective communications skills
Just curious what the syllabus is :)

Nothing as exciting as either of you too unfortunately for me, just steaming out West of Shetland with work today. Although it is my anniversary with my good lady so I have arranged a card and wee prezzie to be delivered (hopefully it will arrive ok).

Today I have just checked the weather forecast to see if our plans to get out of the marina for some sailing are still good. And they are!

I only just noticed you're based in Aberdeen. Are you Aberdonian? Both sides of my family are and I lived in Ellon/Aberdeen for the first six years of my life.

Today I got up at 8:55, which I haven't done in... six or seven months... to go to my new uni place and let my housemate's grandparents in so they could bring piles of his stuff from home. Also, I caused a kerfuffle when I signed us for Virgin, though unbeknownst to me my housemate already had as well. He almost lost his free-for-life Spotify because of it, but we got that sorted out.

So, come the 17th I'll have the new superhub and 120Mb internet ^.^

Today I got up at 0800 to start another day of study, I'm studying actuarial exams through work.

Currently wasting time on the forum after a little BF3 before getting back to cue cards and various other bits and pieces. YUK.

Actuarial exams are professional exams that are required to become an 'Actuary', similar to accountancy exams just a little more mathematical and take a little long to complete. Quote below for 'what is an actuary' as that's obviously coming next! ;-)

"An actuary is a business professional who analyzes the financial consequences of risk. Actuaries use mathematics, statistics, and financial theory to study uncertain future events, especially those of concern to insurance and pension programs. Actuaries may work for insurance companies, consulting firms, government, employee benefits departments of large corporations, hospitals, banks and investment firms, or, more generally, in businesses that need to manage financial risk. A career as an Actuary is better described as a "business" career with a mathematical basis than as a "technical" mathematical career."

Rakk you're exactly right. The majority of the role is related to assessment of risk.

e.g In investment we would look at the best portfolios of assets to give a particular return for a certain risk or would match some liability that the company has

Or from a pricing perspective we would look at the premiums that should be charged for various products, such as car insurance. This would involve looking that the expected costs and frequencies of various 'risky' event. Like letting my Mrs behind the wheel! ;-)

Yeah, it was one of those things that I thought about when I was at uni, but I figured I'd never get a first, so that idea got dropped rather quickly :).

Lol....what is it that you do Rakk?

I didn't get a first at uni, however I did spend the first year after I finished sitting the first few exams off my own back. Which, as you can imagine, did not make for a pleasant experience! ;-)
