I definitely wouldn't opt for the Strix. As the guys have stated above, you're not getting anything over the regular 3070Ti (well you are, but it's so marginal it's pointless)

If you want to spend money though, then upping the GPU is a fair shout. There are definitely some things to consider though and I genuinely can't give you an answer either way.

On one side, as said, FS2020 will eat whatever you throw at it. You could plug in a 3090 and you would still be limited at frame rate. The better the GPU, the better the experience but you really don't gain that much for your spend.

No offence at all here, I have an 11 year old myself, but they will get nothing other than bragging rights from the 3070Ti over the 3060ti at this age/level. In other games there would be a much larger difference but with the games the kids play (Fortnight, Minecraft, PUBG, etc) it'll be like hitting 400fps instead of 300.... which is pointless anyway.

The end result is, it's a toss up. For an 11 year old I would say it's a step too far. If I was buying it for myself and I knew I would get someting out of it, I would definitely consider it. If the money difference isn't too much of a consideration for you then it's a semi-reasonable purchase. It definitely has its merits but it's expensive.

Exactly! It is a tough question though. At the end of the day a line needs to be drawn somewhere and there are pro's and cons for that line being at the 3060Ti or the 3070Ti.

I really need to stop looking! LOL

But in the meantime, here are a few more questions! :ROFLMAO:
1. Switch to a 3080? Thinking of future-proofing
2. My current selection (3060Ti) is now greyed-out (doesn't say pre-order) - would this cause a delay in my build (currently in Pre-Production day 4)?

3080 is bordering on ridiculous now. You can't really future proof the GPU as the technology changes so fast.

If you had the 3060Ti selected your order will be in with the distributor so as long as there aren't too many RMAs for the card then you will be fine for your spot.

Take the money saved, keep it in the bank and get them a nice upgrade next year with the latest gen GPU or etc :)

Thanks for setting me straight @Scott. I needed that! 😬

Just re-visiting your spec and checking some parts out. There are some significant upgrades you could make to future proof the system.

Change the CPU to a 5800X, especially with FS2020 in mind as the 8 cores will come into play pretty soon
With the change of the above the X570 Wifi Motherboard is worthwhile
Upgrade to the H115i. It'll help with the temps and do very well with the 5800X
Upgrade to the 1000w RMx, as above with the RAM..... you're going to end up with a monster build in a year or 2.... I can sense it. You will want a bit more juice for the high end GPUs.
Upgrade to 32GB of RAM, I know we all said 16GB but given where you are at now and with me reflecting where the PC will no doubt go in the future it's worthwhile.

Build is below, I couldn't select the 3060Ti so you need to add £100 or so.

Priority wise, the list above from the top down is probably most important to least important.

Thanks @Scott . Happy with all your suggestions apart from the case - COOLERMASTER MASTERBOX TD500 MESH ARGB GAMING CASE.

Mainly because I don't like the look!

Would my current selection, CORSAIR 4000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE not suffice taking on board the upgraded cooling?

Right.....amendments made and submitted.

Also, I am starting a petition for PCS to not allow ANY changes to the original order once it has been submitted! 🤪

I'm genuinely jealous of that build :ROFLMAO:
Thank you @Scott. Couldn't have done it without all your help. I definitely ended up spending way more than I planned but at least I'm getting a system that I'm happy with and not some off-the-shelf PC.

That said, my kid better play the heck out of MSFS! I already told him that's his next two Birthday's and Christmases sorted!

I'm also about to get a bout of domestic battery once the wife finds out out how much I've spent! And that's before the £300 on a G5 monitor. 😬
I'm "lucky" I don't have one of those to worry about, I just tell my 3 "grown up" :ROFLMAO: daughters that I'm enjoying spending their inheritance & they can argue over the cycling & tech stuff when I'm gone.
