Up for preorder on PCS already. Prices presumably provisional and subject to change. And will likely be based on FE models, not AIBs.

PCS have the 2080 ti at £1323 and the 2080 at £948

Ooooo, that’s a bit steep, but kudos to them for getting them up so quickly!

Assuming those prices were the older forecasts and not the latest quoted.

I hope so - I'm likely going to hang on until the coffee lake refresh comes out and do the lot at once for my home PC. Still, I do wonder what brute-force ANN wonders you could do with a Threadripper 2 and a RTX 2080ti? Beyond my budget, but if I could talk my work into it...

I think I’ll probably do the same, wait for the coffee lake i9’s paired with a 2080, will be an expensive Christmas!

This is what no competition in the high end looks like. 50% price markup on the top model. Let's hope they start squeaking down a bit after the initial hype calms.

I wonder how long that will take after the dramas with stock shortages on initial release of the 1000 series, took about 6 months for everything to calm down, but then that was with all the crypto hype, hopefully that should be far less.

iirc the issues with Pascal being more or less a paper launch until ~August was supply. Nvidia had made a relatively small number of GPUs and weren't really ready to release it en masse. Can't recall if mining had much to do with the initial shortage? Hopefully it won't with this.

That said, at these prices I'm almost certain to end up waiting for the 2070 and let gsync deal with FPS drops. Possibly even wait for a Black Friday deal. I remember one site doing a 1080 FTW for ~£450 on Thursday evening for BF in 2016, and it was ofc sold out before it actually got to BF...

You gonna plump for 144hz 4k?

I gotta say, with gsync, I haven’t noticed deterioration even at 30fps on my 4k

Not a chance, I don't have anywhere near that kind of cash to spare. 4k 60hz gsync. Hopefully get a 4k gsync IPS monitor for ~£500-600 and an appropriate GPU. And even that will be pushing it pretty hard.

I’ll be happy with 4k 60hz until the next series I guess, if they’re a worthy upgrade.

And now it begins.

Having persuaded everyone to hold off from buying a 1080 ti while waiting for the announcement we need to persuade them to hold off until reviews are out so we can know what a 2080 ti / 2080 actually is.

Lols, it’s gonna be a mental couple of months on the forums :taz:

Was about to pull the trigger on getting the Vulcan S01 before I decided to wait for this announcement. Looks like the wait continues!

I have been waiting for a few years now to buy a new PC, you guys did convince me to wait for, at least, the new Nvidia GPUs, if not for Intel's new CPUs coming out (apparently) in October. (I'll post the link to my first thread below)
I have watched Nvidia's live-streamed event and I must say that I was also blown away by this new technology, Ray tracing, especially by the simple yet effective demonstration of the lightning effects in the little room with the balls.
Everything sounds good on paper, even though they purposely did not reveal the raw computing power by showing how much tera-flops each cards can produce, so I get why everyone is on the fence for now.

Having that said, I'm 99% sure that I will purchase a 2080ti (or 2080) when they will go on sale, although only after watching a couple of reviews from the tech Youtubers I usually watch. (which I guess will be the day of since most of them get review samples?)
My first reason why is because since I have waited so long to finally buy a new proper gaming PC, I feel the need to buy the latest piece of technology instead of something that is already two years old.
Second reason is that I believe that the new RTX technology will be adopted by a lot more game developers in the near future because of how apparently easy it is to work with, and if games like the new Tomb Raider, which was only announced in May already have this new technology implemented in it, it bodes well for the future.

I saw that PCS already have the new cards for pre-order, so I went and created a new configuration with the new 2080ti included, I was expecting something more expensive sure, but oh boy did that hurt to see that number.
So apparently the new 2080ti FE will cost $200 more than the reference edition (not sure why, definitely not worth the $200 for just an OC) bringing the cost to a whooping $1200. (add another $200 for us in France)
I've noticed that PCS offers the new 2080ti for 1466 euros (ouch), which is a bit more expensive than other retailers here, does anybody know which version they are planning on selling by the way?
And just when I thought things could not get any worse, PCS offers the Asus Dual Geforce (not even the ROG Strix) 2080ti for 1583 euros, HOLY COW!

So here is my old configuration that I made when I first joined the forum a few weeks ago: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...back-welcomed-Gaming-PC-Build-(8700k-1080ti-)
After replacing the graphic card and a few (not very expensive) things, my budget exploded and went from 2 404,00 € inc. TVA to €2,886.00 inc. VAT, good thing I have another month or two to sort out my finances...

Excuse me for being a dumbass, but will the raytracing cores actually make any difference to existing games which were designed without that tech in mind? In the launch he kept saying 'it just works' when they switched on ray tracing, but I can only recall them using it on new titles (presumably designed to take advantage of it) and demo vids (likewise).

These certainly look impressive. Probably made my mind up to wait on my laptop upgrade till the mobile 20 series appears. My 3yr old 970M is still not ok for most things, currently running monster hunter with no probs so no rush to upgrade for a 30% increase from the 970M >1060.

No NVlink (i.e. SLI) on the -70 series this time. Presumably to avoid cannibalising sales of the 2080ti, as with the 1060 no longer having SLI last time around.
https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-geforce-rtx-2070-does-not-have-nvlink

It's weird. The MSRPs keep jumping, so a -70 level card goes from being mid-range to high end pricing, and performance wise it might be pushing into a higher category (maybe as higher resolutions become more common) - but for multi GPU setups outside of those orchestrated via DX12's mGPU, you have to keep going higher up the chain.

Whilst I'm really interested in the hardware ray-tracing capabilities of the new GPUs, I'm somewhat glad I went with the GTX 1080. Date of availability and price are a factor but what I didn't know (and expect) was the huge jump in TDP (250-285W for the 2080).

The 2080 is expected to be 40% faster than the 1080, however the standard TDP for the 1080 is 180W so we're seeing a 28% increase in power usage (compared to the low-end 250W in the 2080).

330W PSU has been the upper limit for most laptops nowadays. Anything above that often requires 2x330W PSUs. It would be interesting to see whether:
* The mobile GTX 2080 has similar TDP/performance, and therefore requiring new/bigger/heavier PSUs as well as bigger cooling system i.e., larger form-factor, or..
* The mobile GTX 2080 is scaled down to 180W TDP like the 10-series.

The TDP for the mobile versions, once they appear, is likely to be much less (and much less powerful).
